Burning Fat vs Building Muscle

A year ago this month I posted transformation photos that blew up here. Checking in to show this year’s progress. I’m not as lean as I was this time last year, but my aim this year was to get stronger, and I’ve made some decent progress there. I hit a PR of 225 on bench press, I’m squatting and deadlifting again, and all of my lifts are up! The progression from this year to last isn’t near as dramatic although I think I can see visible gains at least in the chest. It serves as a reminder that the process of muscle building is painstakingly slow especially compared to burning fat!

Back again to consult the experts, hopefully with more improvements. This was my third set of 5 at 305 lbs which is heavier than I’ve done in a long time. There’s so much to think about! I’m still working on “floating the bar” instead of jerking it up. Also trying not to lean back at the top of the movement, and doing my best to keep my arms straight and biceps less engaged (that’s tough for me for some reason). Finally, working on head placement and looking down a bit more. Let me know what else I can improve.

The Oxford cloth western shirts in J Crew’s recent collaboration with Lee caught my eye, but I can’t afford the investment right now. It did inspire me to find this gingham shirt for a similar vibe, though, and I think it pairs well with the suede chore coat. Hope you agree!
