I bought this beautiful watch on vacation and wore it around the cruise ship a bit, but when I got home with it I decided that it just doesn't have a place in my little collection.

Military watch designs like this "Royal Navy Diver," the A11 field watch, flieger, etc. were historically built by various brands concurrently.
Today, these classic styles are still produced by various brands and are available at widely ranging price points, although the differences are often hard to articulate. How does the brand really factor into these watches, and if you are a person who values authenticity, how do you assess each brand's claims? Is the CWC the "real deal" because of its high price and visibility amongst the British Navy, or is a much cheaper HGP more "authentic" because it uses a Monnin-branded case? Is this whole question stupid anyway? Does it matter to you?
I chose this one because it was cheap and undersized at 39mm, but I find myself wanting an uncoated one in 42mm too. Do you think it is worth paying more for a "better" brand, or does that defeat the whole purpose of a military spec anyway?
I wandered drunk into the duty-free watch shop on my Alaskan cruise this week and bought this Shinola Mechanic with a Sellita SW210-1 for $467, at an alleged discount of 75% off.
I knew I had seen this watch previously on their website for almost $2k and indeed it is listed as such now.
Did I get a legit killer deal here, or is this just the same old Invicta scam where no one has ever paid MSRP for the watch? For $467, it feels like a really solid value in the hand and on the wrist, so I'm not mad either way.
