[Art] The party + those who have passed on

Artwork done for the D&D party who call themselves, “Femur Check” 😁 A tiefling sorcerer, Elf barbarian, Aasimar wizard, human monk, changeling bard, human warlock, half-orc druid and Goliath paladin. + half elf rogue & half orc ranger who moved on to the next life.

They started in Phandelver, helping the Rockseeker brothers with a shipment… and somehow ended up fighting a god. They all went on to live heroic lives of adventure after the campaign, but the Goliath paladin chose to open up a bakery in a small town. They all still go to visit. BBEGs still hate to see em coming.

Ideas for a False Hydra (Lich)?

My players are headed to the town secluded mountain town of Sablemyre(because their patron told them something suspicious was going on and wants them to find out what). Set in a dnd version of eastern asia and this is the “Russian” area.

The town is going to be a false hydra variant. All the same concepts EXCEPT it’s not a hydra, it’s a LICH who is collecting bodies from around the kingdoms for a giant ritual spell. The town has been unknowingly covering for the lich but the players have been sent to investigate some disappearances and a letter that was sent to their patron. Beneath the city is the D&D equivalent of a Necron Tomb World where the Lich is preparing his ritual.

The battle lines are where the “Russian” styled Royal house has been holding back undead hordes(like White Walkers from GOT). Unbeknownst to the players, the undead hordes are trying to reach the same town, to meet up with the Lich and complete the ritual as his fodder/batteries.

I already plan on having the players discover a party member they forgot about.

Any ideas or suggestions or things that have worked for your games in the past?

Or pitfalls to avoid haha?
:)

I already plan to have the players discover a party member that they “forgot” about. (I enjoy DIY stuff like my journal i posted prior. My players eat it up too - so I’m planning to make a journal abt their time together that they can actually discover and read. Vs just saying “you forgot Billy” or something)

Any other ideas or suggestions for fun things to add or what’s worked for yall in your games?
