Removing stuck on mirrors and filling damage

Hello friends. I’ve been asked to remove these mirror shapes, repair the wall, and re-paint it. I have a couple of questions:

  1. Does anyone know how to remove these stuck-on mirrors without damaging or minimally damaging the wall?
  2. If you look closely you can see in the photo below the mirrors where they already removed some and caused some damage. The damage left is not deep. Is spackling sufficient, or should I treat these as a normal drywall repair using hot mud and a finish coat of mud before priming and painting?

Thanks everyone!

Infrared Paint Remover Recommendations

Does anyone have recommendations for an infrared paint remover? It will mostly be used on old window frames, trim, and doors (such as the one I’ve included with the post).

Also, I’m getting lead restoration certified this week so I will know about safety when removing old lead based paints.

Thanks!

What in the… ?

Hi Everyone.

Discovered this on my backyard yesterday. Located in Cary North Carolina (USA). It’s right next to my chicken coop and a few feet away from an old tree stump (idk what kind of tree). Anyone know what it is? I’m not even sure it’s a fungus.

Thanks!

Do I need to add more support?

I had cut out a terrible patch job done by previous painter or handyman. Do I need to add more 2 x 4 support before replacing with sheet rock?

Here is a pick of the hole I cut and what it looked like before.

Thanks!!

Is this paint or stain?

Hi All. I posted about this a couple of days ago. I went and saw the fence and can’t tell if it was originally painted or stained with a solid stain. Is there a sure way to tell? There is some peeling happening on the rails, but the pickets don’t seem to be peeling at all.

Also, the nails used by the previous painter have left stains on the pickets. If I spray over the stains with two coats of solid stain and back-roll, will the stains just come right back? For the sections where I’m going to replace the pickets, what kind of nails should I use so they won’t do the same thing?

Thanks again!!

Good options for this fence?

Hi all!

A friend has asked me to help them with their fence. They provided these photos but I haven’t seen it yet in person. They have only lived there two years and don’t know if it was painted or stained previously, but since there are no paint chips, I’m assuming it was stained with a solid stain.

I’m looking for advice on how to repair and re-stain this fence that would be less expensive than tearing it down and starting over. Thank you all in advance!

Carpenter Bee Damage Repair

Hi fellow painters. This may be a little off topic for r/paint but I’m sure other painters have run into carpenter bee damage as well so I thought I’d ask.

In addition to what you can see in the pic the damage most likely goes up behind the rain gutter. Is it worth it to take down the rain gutter and either fill the holes or replace the entire piece of wood rather than just fill the holes?

What is the best permanent fix?

Oh, the bee(s) is still there and is going to bee upset. :)

Exterior sheen/drying issue

I’m repainting a house with a brush and roller using Benjamin Moore Aura satin paint. After two coats it is very uneven. I’m assuming it’s because it’s 95° here in NC and it is drying unevenly or faster than desired. What can I do to prevent this moving forward?

Ignore the other garbage in the photo, this isn’t the house’s first repaint (probably its third), that crud was already there, just focus on the splotchy areas. :)

Thank you all in advance!

Spraying Solid Stain and Painting Trim

I hope to be restraining this house in the near future. Will I have issues if I spray the stain on the siding first, overlapping the trim slightly, the brushing/rolling the trim? I.e., will the trim paint cover any stain that gets on the trim? Is there another way I should be doing it?

Thank you all in advance, your advice is very helpful!
