Sigh… Guess I need to be more careful with shorts on small SMDs

Sigh… Guess I need to be more careful with shorts on small SMDs

Created an irrigation controller for my 12v dc irrigation valve and apparently allowed some solder to short my transistor. Luckily didn’t damage the valve or the pico, but does mean I have to put together another one…

Anyone have tips to possibly avoid this in the future?

Quick and easy 90° angles

I doubt I’m the first person to figure out this easy way to use the 3-4-5 rule to find 90° angles, but wanted to share in case anyone else needed it. Just take a piece of string line (a little more than 36’ long) and tie a loop at 0’, 9’, 21’, and 36’ giving you a 9’, 12’ and 15’ segment. Place a stake with a nail (rebar would be better but I didn’t have any) at your corner and loop the 9’ spot on the stake (the 2nd loop). Walk out in the direction you want one side until the 9’ segment gets taught. Place another stake and put both the 0’ & 36’ loops on the stake. Walk out holding the last loop until both lines to the stakes gets taught and place your last stake. Kablam! You now have a 90° angle…

I feel like maybe this was too much weight…

I am humble enough to admit that maybe there is a small possibility that I could have slightly put a tad bit too much weight on this disc plow…

They look like peanuts…

Last year I cleared about 4 acres of young but dense pine trees & sweet gum trees for a future orchard/garden and left these piles from the root rake. This year they seem to be sprouting peanuts!

This land was farmed about 15-20 years ago, but I am shocked that the seeds would still grow this long after the farm closed down. Anyone else ever seen something like this? Any good peanut recipes? 😂

What is your morning routine?

It’s 95° here today in SC, so while I’m inside cooling off (wasting time) wanted to see what everyone’s normal morning routine looks like. I’ll start…

• Wake up around 6am (later than most, I’ll bet)
• Walk dog around property & start irrigation for market garden setting timer for 45 minutes
• Grab a coffee & jimmy dean croissant sandwich
• Watch YouTube until the irrigation timer goes off
• Turn off irrigation & start daily work (currently clearing a new field & torching burn piles)

What do you all do to start the day?

[United States] Exo Pro app no longer on App Store. Is my Blackhawk 2 a brick now?

Hey all,

I just dug up my Blackhawk 2 to get some aerial footage around my property and found that the Exo Pro app is no longer available on the App Store for my iPhone. Does anyone know if there is an alternate app that can be used to fly it or is it essentially a brick now? I know I can still use it with just the remote, but without FPV I can't use it for photography so it's worthless to me.

Anyone in the same predicament?

Favorite shoe for farm work?

Hey all, for the past couple of years I've been using Sketchers steel toed utility shoe, which work well for me but tend to not last very long. I've just broke the soles on my 2nd pair in ~15 months, so I think it's time for a change.

Have any suggestions for a shoe that will last long, slip on, steel\composite toe, and have good traction on the farm? Personally, not a fan of boots, but so far that's all I've found that's met all the criteria...

Date night in Columbia

I’m from Orangeburg and we’re trekking to Columbia for a date night next weekend. What’s a good place to eat that a picky eater would like, but is still considered “fancy”? No seafood, moderately priced, and not noisy…

Help me out, otherwise we’ll just end up at Freddy’s again (not that that would be a bad thing, IMO)
