I’m a senior Education major at USC, and I’m starting to look at options post-grad. Due to certain reasons I’m having to stay in the state for my job, so I’ve been looking at different areas. I’ve considered the Charleston area as well, but haven’t heard good things, so I’m just wondering: is the Columbia area a good place to live in your 20s? I’ve enjoyed my time in Columbia in college and am pretty familiar with the area outside of downtown so just keeping my options open. Thank you!

Heard from the firework stands lady beside the gas station right off the dam the show got cancelled because a gun was pulled. Anybody heard anything similar?

Just a heads up, they are giving out parking tickets in 5 points and the vista today. Even though it’s a Saturday….and even though it’s a State and Federal holiday…..I just got a $20 ticket in 5 points. Ugh.

Edit: For those of you who know they ticket on weekends and on holidays this post obviously isn’t for you. Just scroll past. Trying to help those (like me) who didn’t know. Was at lunch in 5 points and no one who walked in knew they were ticketing….so just letting everyone know they are. No clue why anyone is down voting me for just trying to help people. Wow.

I recently bought an electric dirt bike. I know there are trails upstate but are there any trails in Columbia or even empty spots of land people ride on?

About 100 outside in July. Where the hell is Dairy Queen? Zesto doesn’t have a drive thru. Sonic is fine yet not DQ. Coldstone is great… but no drive thru.

Why the hell is there no DQ in Columbia? Rural towns in the middle of nowhere have Dairy Queen but not Columbia. Arguably a bigger travesty than not having an Apple Store. Why does Satan’s arm pit not have a DQ?

Black masses are held in all city parks at midnight. It’s a liberal town so altar can be a naked woman or man. Do not visit any of the 107 snake handling churches unless you are VERY experienced. Their headquarters is the Columbia Museum of Art which sold all the paintings years ago and is now devoted to snakes and speaking in tongues. Do not try the pimiento cheese. People will tell you it’s a local delicacy; this is a prank, like that “chili” in Cincinnati. Do not fall for it. The Saturday farmers’ market on Main Street is nice but do NOT drink anything served from the coffin-shaped lunch truck.

I know the best view is from a boat but we don’t have access to one, and the small public parking lots either side of the dam are of course sold out.

We didn’t expect to be in town tonight so we’re trying to figure out last minute plans. Not ideal on Americas 250th birthday lol.

Do people just park at businesses all up and down that road and park on the street and walk, or do they tow people for doing that?? I’m prepared to walk a couple of miles! Does the dam just fill up early with people in chairs I guess?

Are any lakefront bars/ restaurants a good idea?
