Where to stay in Nicaragua?

My girlfriend and I are doing a 7-week South America trip and on our way home we're stopping for 8 days in Nicaragua. We're looking for it to be our chill, warm, beach part to end our adventurous trip. We're not surfers, we're just looking for somewhere to hang out by the beach and relax.

We are thinking Popoyo but are there any other beach towns that aren't completely remote?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Christmas in El Calafate or El Chalten?

My girlfriend and I are doing a 7-week South America trip from November to January, and Christmas falls during the Argentina Patagonia portion of our trip.

We’re trying to decide whether it would be better to spend Christmas in El Calafate or El Chaltén.

Our rough plan is:

Option 1:

  • Dec 18–19: El Calafate
  • Dec 20–24: El Chaltén
  • Dec 25: Return to El Calafate for the night
  • Dec 26: Fly out to Mendoza

Option 2:

  • Dec 18–19: El Calafate
  • Dec 20–25: El Chaltén
  • Dec 26: Travel early back to El Calafate and fly to Mendoza

We’re leaning toward spending Christmas in El Chaltén because we like nature and quaint towns but we’re wondering if El Calafate might be better for Christmas because it has more restaurants, and might feel a bit more comforting to have some stuff going on during Christmas while being away from family .

Also, is it risky to travel from El Chaltén to El Calafate on the same day as a flight, or should we return to El Calafate the night before?

Any advice would be appreciated!
