What everyday things about life in a small Chinese town are you curious about but rarely get to see?

Local markets, grocery shopping, rent, haircuts, commuting, restaurants, village life, prices, or ordinary streets?

You ask. I’ll go film it.

A few people asked me about DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), so I took a few photos.

I can’t upload the video here, unfortunately.
Photo 2 shows the DEF tank.
If you want to see anything else, just ask.

A few photos from the truck yard I work at in China

A few people were asking about Chinese construction trucks in my previous post, so I took some photos at the yard today.

This is just one part of the parking area where I work. It’s basically rows and rows of construction dump trucks.

I see trucks like these almost every day, so I sometimes forget how unusual this might look to someone outside China.

If there’s anything specific you want me to photograph next — the cab, engine, interior, different truck models, prices, or even what a typical truck yard looks like here — just ask. I can take photos when I’m at work.

I work in what I jokingly call “China’s Detroit” — what would you want to know about Chinese trucks?

I work around a huge truck yard in China, with tens of thousands of construction dump trucks and other heavy trucks.

There are a lot of different brands, models, and configurations here, and I realized I probably take some of these things for granted because I see them every day.

So I'm curious — what do people outside China actually wonder about Chinese trucks?

Would you want to see things like:

  • Different dump truck configurations
  • Cab interiors
  • Engines, transmissions, and axles
  • Electric construction trucks
  • How much these trucks cost in China
  • How they compare with trucks in the US
  • What a huge Chinese truck yard actually looks like

If you have a question about Chinese trucks, ask me. If I can find the truck here, I'll take a picture and show you.

What's something you would never get to see on a typical China tour?

I’m curious what people who have traveled to China think about this.

When people visit China for the first time, they usually have a pretty standard itinerary: Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Chengdu, Guilin, etc.

But what are the things you would probably never get to see on a typical China tour?

I mean the ordinary stuff.

Local markets?
Villages?
Small towns?
Farms?
Factories?
Construction sites?
Ordinary neighborhoods?
Truck stops?

Or something completely different?

I live in rural China and ride my motorcycle about 20 km to work almost every day, so I pass through a lot of places that aren't really tourist destinations.

If you could get off the normal tourist route for one day, what would you want to see?

What do foreigners often get wrong about rural China?

I grew up in rural China and still live in a rural area.

I ride my motorcycle about 20 km to work almost every day, so I spend a lot of time passing through villages, small towns and farmland.

Recently, I started wondering how different the image of rural China is from the reality.

There are things I see every day that I never really thought were unusual:

  • houses and abandoned houses
  • farming
  • village markets
  • young people moving to cities
  • elderly people staying in villages
  • transportation
  • work and income
  • education and healthcare
  • everyday life in small towns

For those of you who have never lived in rural China:

What do you think rural China is like, and what are you most curious about?
