The final countdown

Last two weeks of full time work before the baby goes to school! I say baby because I’ve known them almost their whole life but they’ll be 4 soon. I’m staying with this family part time because I love them and I don’t want to look for a new one just yet. I’m a little nervous about making things work financially but I’m so so so excited to have more time to take care of myself. Also a little nervous about two weeks of full time adventuring with both kids because I don’t really come by that amount of energy naturally. But we’ll have fun!

I never get tired of listening to New Yorkers complain

Hearing all of the kids talk about what a hassle it is to get into “deep Brooklyn” from Manhattan gave me a hearty chuckle.

How many bags are you bringing to work?

Summer adventures are in full swing. In an effort to be ready for anything I’ve found myself now bringing my purse (for all the regular necessities), a tote bag (full of books, snacks, activities), and a backpack full of clothes (because we go swimming or hiking or I need a change of clothes for whatever reason). My passenger seat is completely full of nonsense and necessities. Tell me I’m not the only one?

Very rough time

Kids got me sick two weeks ago so I was working sick for as much as I could last week. Woke up Monday with unrelenting upper jaw pain. Turns out it’s a sinus infection that spread and worsened so I got antibiotics on Wednesday. I have not had a single moment without pain since Monday morning. Slept for one hour Monday night and very little the rest of this week. No combination of OTC treatments is even taking the edge off this excruciating face pain. To top it off I hit my forehead so hard on a play structure ledge yesterday that my teeth clacked together hard. So with the full face sinus pain, I now have several very sore teeth and one side of my neck is locked up. And NK has two ear infections with a runny nose and cough so they’ve just been coughing on me nonstop this week. Posting here trying not to cry before work. Gonna ask to go home early today. Hopefully I can go home and suffer alone instead of trying to contain my rage out in the world. Wish me luck.

Ps fun fact: little kids can’t get sinus infections because the space that will become their maxillary sinuses (under the cheeks) is full of their adult teeth. Google baby skull X-rays if you wanna see something weird

Dentist new patient specials for cleanings

I love my dentist but it’s incredibly expensive in a high cost of living area. There’s many dental practices in my area. I don’t have insurance so I pay cash for dental work. Would it be messed up if I went to another dental office to take advantage of their “new patient” special for a cleaning and X-rays? The one I’m looking at charges $400 less than my dentist does and I really need to watch my budget these days.

Unexpected win

I had drafted an email to my NPs about how with summer adventures coming up I am going to need to start collecting mileage reimbursement or some other version of recouping my car and gas costs. Before I even sent it, they said “hey we noticed gas is going crazy, you can just start using our card for all your gas and maintenance for your car”. Sometimes things just work out ☺️

I frequent some kids museums with my NKs and often times there are elementary aged field trips happening there. Tell me why no adult interferes when these kids are literally screaming at the top of their lungs for no reason and running so fast that they knock little kids over? Just watched a band of 7 year olds coordinate to knock over a huge cement blockade while the chaperone moms just chatted nearby. Literally had to say “hey can you get control of your kids?” and only then did they look at what their charges were doing. To be fair, not all field trips are like this. Some are very well coordinated and respectful. But the bad ones are so bad.
