Why is everything so costly??

Okay so I was trying to eat healthy and broccoli is so costly here (Pune). Do you guys know of any other veggies I can use in my noodle soup?

I have zucchini that I got on discount and well capsicum was cheap. I just need a replacement for broccoli that isn't cauliflower.

Also I need reccos for chicken buillon or stock cubes to add to my soup and biryani water.

Thanks and have a nice day!!

R.I.P. Prof. Arday

Woke up to this Tragic news of his passing. I hope people are happy now. Idk. I feel a lot of rage.

Pretty sure all of his friends and colleagues deserted him as soon as that news broke and he felt himself alone and without options.

I won't comment about racism and plagiarism and stuff, we all know which is which, very well.

Anyhow, I hope he rests in peace. Academics can be very isolating, especially when you're at the top.

I can't speak very well in my rage and tears for someone I never knew or not even from my field but I had to vent it out.

How do I make it out of this fog!

Hello everyone! I am a Ph.D in Medchem, with computational drug design as one of my research interests. Due to some financial issues, I had to immediately take up a job in a private university (India) post thesis submission. It's been about 3 yrs now and I'm stuck not being able to apply for postdocs abroad (properly), publish papers or even have any personal goals of any type.

The work conditions are hell-like (I mean this wasn't my path, postdoc was) and I feel like my brain is atrophying, they've reduced us to working like some clerks putting out useless documents instead of TEACHING, let alone research. Doesn't leave me with enough energy to do any applications at all but I was still rallying on somehow. Did not receive good responses. They all say their labs are full or the domain isn't a total match, that is, if they do respond at all (I get it the PI's must be buried under a lot of work).

It's all come to a head now and I fell temporarily ill from burnout and hard physical labor at my beloved uni few weeks ago. Ever, since I have just focused completely on postdoc applications, however, it now looks like most labs want candidates with a fellowship and I seem to have aged out of several such fellowships due to my amazing teaching stint.

Please excuse any sarcastic tones, I read too much and words flow out of me this way, sometimes. Not enraged at all. I just want someone to tell me it gets better, that I will find a lab and make it.

PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE OF ANY AND ALL TYPES., constructive. I can use your advice in approach mechanism, which fellowships to target or not to target or other relevant routes. Thanks!!

There's no winning this, isn't it?

So I'm a PhD in a drug discovery field. I did my PhD from one of the top institutions in India, because I believed India is getting to the top (back then, we were kinda going somewhere really and I was young and hopeful).

By the time I finished my degree things changed drastically, all of a sudden it all became an Olympics of the best chamcha/chaatu etc. To those who don't know Hindi, the blatant careerists, the sycophants and so on.

I took up a teaching job as a prof in private uni, for like 2.5 yrs now, which is ofc the best place for people with such skills. I'm just so exhausted with everything. Feel like I'm in a pit with no light in sight.

The only attraction to teaching type professions is not money but the influence you get to have over young ppl, the future of the country etc etc. But these days the kids feel like zombies, they don't have any goals or aspirations. The handful of ambitious of students also seem to have dumb ideals like getting a huge sports car or something as a marker of success ( not in this field kids lol).

Anyway, right now I feel like I should've gone into sales. Pharma sales would have been perfect for me after bachelors or masters. At least I would have some potential for growth and would be in line with wherever the industry is headed. Yes I do understand there will be chamchas in sales too but at least that's their place to be so I won't mind.

Let me know if you guys have any advice related to pharma sales for someone like me. I love communication and shit so it can't be a problem and also I'm good with learning anything at a very fast pace. Have a bright cheerful attitude outside of Reddit. Thanks.

Marriage for Indian women

I've been thinking about this for very long so just off the top of my head these are the things which make feel like it's not a good bet for us Indian women. You can add to this, and I haven't really written everything down.

  1. The Bahu problem: Unfortunately in India, once you're married, you're not just a wife, you're a Bahu. While in the West a DIL is not a big deal in most cases but in India a bahu is a revenge arc for the patriarchally suppressed MIL. She will try to extract reparations for all that she's suffered and more. On top of it you'll be this hurdle in the Oedipal relationship bw herself and her son, who's in turn the only person who's ever treated her with respect in her entire life. Do the math!
  2. Marital rape : We as women have never done a large-scale protest against the rape laws in India. Almost every other country recognizes marital rape as rape except for India and a few other backward areas. We don't even THINK in terms of it being a rape. Think really carefully before marrying a guy, you never know what situation you'll be put under. And there's victim blaming as well in such situations, such as "you've married him so you have to suffer or make it work etc". Marriage is definitely an end of your bodily autonomy in such cases. Also, victim blamers, please note, men don't arrive with the word rapist tattooed on their foreheads, most such men can be educated, charming and good natured otherwise.
  3. Wife tax : I'm not going to talk about the financial burdens here, as you all must know it already. In this fundamentally unequal, chaotic society, the total responsibility of care and protection of kids comes under the duty of the wife. This place will make your kids sick or injured all the time due to how absolutely polluted and mismanaged it is, and it'll be your responsibility to do the hospital runs and to provide healthy meals.
  4. Cultural/religious load carrying : As married women, you will be expected to carry the customs and traditions of your nonblood related family. You'll have to do all the vrats, poojas, purdahs etc that your husband is so CHILL about because he's male and won't have to participate. He'd often see it as a cute aesthetic or a normal responsibility you have to carry. Imagine having to inculcate their old traditions into the kids that you have birthed and carried. This is what dissuades me even from love marriages. Like hello I also come from a family, my family's superstitions, customs and blind beliefs also deserve attention lmao.

Anyway there's more but I got work to do today.

I think I've made my peace

It is so weird sometimes, to be such a rebel as a woman, to not want kids, to not "fulfil my womanly duty (lol)". Here's the things I suffer from, lemme know if you have any advice.

  1. There is no mirroring in my life, I'm 33 F, Pune, unmarried, single etc., At this point in time everyone in my circle is married, even the ones who were reluctant just found the nearest harbour in AM and got married. This makes me feel extremely friendless and leaves me with no one to share my experiences with or even spend time with. Them getting married is not a dealbreaker to me, but they detach from me at the speed of light once they're married (Is it a part of the marriage vows to isolate one's single friends? 👀).
  2. Relationships toh I'm on the verge of giving up on finding men I can like/love. I haven't had a crush on a guy in more than a decade now. Not even on the actors. What is this blandness epidemic? Where are we going as a civilization? Or is it just me?

No hate btw. I would be bland too If I were a man ig, I totally get it. But anyhow forget men, I'll be just happy to make friends of any gender, just without any hidden agendas please.

Hope you all have a great sunday!
