I made a free, open-source Maya add-on that brings Blender’s keys and modal tools into Maya

I switch between Blender and Maya a lot and kept pressing G X 2 and Tab in Maya, so I wrote an add-on for it. It’s called Orange.

What’s in the video:

  • Tab edit mode, E extrude with a typed value
  • Ctrl+R loop cut with a live preview, mouse wheel sets the number of cuts
  • Ctrl+B bevel, G X 2 and R Z 45 with axis lock
  • Z shading pie, F3 command search
  • A modifier panel where Subdivision and Array stay live while you edit the base mesh

It runs on top of Maya’s own hotkeys without changing them, so turning it off puts Maya back to default. It’s written in Python with maya.api and Qt.

It’s tested on Maya 2027 / Windows so far. If you’re on macOS or Linux, I’d really like to hear whether the keys work for you.
