Buying a 2017 in 2026; Is there a better choice?

I am (hopefully) bringing home a 2017 NC700X DCT, and have been trying to do all of my due diligence. I just don't know if certain things are ok with most of my experience being on newer single cylinders or scooters.

Not many used in my area at all, and I really wanted the DCT.

I'm purchasing for $5k with 10.2k miles. It was originally purchased from the dealer, was traded in, sold again, and traded in again. All service done at that dealership. The dealer is also very reliable, and pretty well known for good service.

Overall condition is very good, other than the headlamp plastic being a little scratched up. The brakes and chain look like they are in great order.

The bike includes:

-Sargent aftermarket seat

-taller, adjustable windscreen

-bar Mount for phone/GPS

-New tires

-lowering kit

This is where I have questions:

I'm 6'2", so the lowering kit isn't essential for me. But I'm also only 155lbs, so neither is a lot of suspension. Is the lowing kit ok on the bike? Should I have it removed?

There was some corrosion on the rear shock, more than I would have expected. It's all surface corrosion, but I was a bit surprised to see that much. I thought I remember reading these are known for that, am I remembering correctly. Based on that and the headlight I am wondering if they did some light gravel roads.

I can hear the DCT shift, and that work about as I expected for that iteration. It worked fairly well, a little clunky at times, but no more than my shifting for sure. I am not used to a parallel twin, or the low revs. There's a bit of knocking (very minimal), especially at around 40mph while it's still in 6th gear, but I just don't know if that is normal.

The '21 seemed to have a lot of improvements over the '17, but all of them in my area are $1000 and have come with at least 5k more miles. I could also spend up another $2k and get a '24. Is there that much of a gain? Compared to the cb500x, and even my Yamaha xmax300, I used to have it feels really light (while also heavy - it's so weird). I don't think I would gain from the shaved weight. LED turn signals from a cost side don't seem too expensive to upgrade. I definitely don't need the extra HP, so very happy with a 670cc. An added liter in the frunk isn't a big deal, I plan on adding a top box anyway. And it already came with a new seat , so I don't have to worry about the nut crunch. Is the traction control and brakes worth it? Am I missing something?

Beginner(ish) Bike in Rural Area

I live in a rural area where finding a used bike can be a bit challenging. I can't just go and sit on something.

I have been riding for a few years now, mostly on a scooter or my ct125. I had a CB500x more recently, and had a round robin of bikes before it. Nothing has been quite a Goldilocks.

I ride mostly road (paved state and farm roads)

I'm 6'2" and 160, I prefer a neutral ride position

I'm mostly trying to balance comfort and weight of the bike I like small displacement bikes, and really don't like being a heavy bike (or that feels top heavy).

I want something that's fuel efficient

I am now looking at a Honda 300l or 250l, one of the Royal Enfield 350s or 411s, or if I can find the right deal an nc750x. Any suggestions or feedback?

I had a 250 Rally as my first motorcycle and it just did not make me feel confident on a windy day (really top heavy). I have a lot more experience now, but also hoping that a 300bor even a normal 250 won't feel as top heavy with the smaller tanks.

The RE 350s actually seem like good options even though they are heavy. About the same weight as my 500x, but I am guessing they will carry it pretty low? My 500x actually felt pretty good as far as weight (it was just boring to ride, and it wasn't a speed thing).

I'm worried the 411s might be too heavy, not sure though.

The NC750x I know is heavier than all of them, but I'm hoping with the engine beingow and forward with the frunk it will feel about like the 500x, or lighter?

Am I Just Mean HR? [N/A]

I work for a midsized non-profit in healthcare with about 200+ employees across 10 sites. I am the HR Director, and basically sit with our C-suite for decision making. Most of the leadership in the company are home grown, including the Chief Officers and CEO. I previously came from a larger corporation. The company is 85% female, and I am male.

I feel like staff perceive me on a very hot/cold, back/white, good/bad basis, and for the most part, I understand why; I also feel like that is most HR. The leaders in my company struggle with accountability and follow through. I often find myself in a position of having to correct, recorrect, and discipline staff more than what should be in my position, primarily because I am making up for the lack of this with supervisors. Our staff also often feel they need to always be a part of every decision the organization makes, including responsibilities assigned to them - I am not speaking to the approach I would take to communicate with them, but rather they have decision making authority that doesn't exist.

I am also fairly blunt, analytical, and compliance driven in my approach (robotic?), and often write knowing my communications could be quickly turned into a legal document - for context.

My CEO over the last six months has "pulled me aside" a few times now to tell me to watch my tone in my communications -they come off as too stern or seem harsh. Mind you, in every one of these cases, I am reprimanding for something not done correctly (repeatedly), for a Chief officer violating policy, etc. my communications are always professional, but they are pointed and direct as to what was done wrong and what should have been done differently - in most cases intentionally (a written "verbal").

I have run these by other leaders, including my CFO who has a similar background to myself, with no concerns. My CEO is, to be frank, an employee that also struggles with accountability.

This is particularly true of a certain officer she often favors that is also often found blatantly violating policy.

I am at a point where, while I really feel I have addressed situations appropriately, I am also questioning if I am being too course or mean. I have been told I am intimidating to meet in person (I'm 6'2", but skinny as all hell), which I don't really understand, but also why avoid it for some situations. I do sometimes wonder if it's because I am a guy, but I try not to go down that path.

Should my disciplinary/correction emails be nicer? Less direct? I feel like I'm second guessing my approach after 15 years.

Older Burgman 400 over Newer ADV160

Would you take a 2016 Burgman over an ADV160? Other way around? There are a lot of pros and cons to both scoots. I am never on the thruway for use case, and mostly 55mph farm roads.

Anyone have experience on both?

CRF230L vs. XR150L

I used to have an XR150I that I sold, but I really liked the bike - more than I realized. I may be looking to buy a used one again, but keep stumbling on a 230I. That little bit of extra hp would be great.

Does anyone have experience on how they compare?

I know I would need to get a new seat, that was the best thing about the XR. It would be mostly road use. I'm really wondering if the rider position/leg room is about the same. I'm a taller guy, and I fit well on the XR even for it being a smaller bike.

Bigger Scooter or Not? Is An ADV160 Enough? Alternatives?

I currently have a Honda ADV160, and actually swapped it for a '23 XMax. I really like the XMax, but I couldn't get comfortable on it and my knees were constantly about my hips (6'2", 160lbs). I lost leg room and power, but more comfort.

I have had three bike for a while, including a Honda CT125 and A CB500X. I sold the CB , mostly because it wasn't quite what I had art my expectations on and leg room was a bit tighter than anticipated.

I am now thinking I still want something with a little more oomf, but I also really like having a scoot (I'm ol not on the thruway ever). I was going to get an older motorcycle or dual sport, but now I'm thinking about getting a larger used scooter (in US , so only a few options).

I really love my ADV, and don't need to sell it financially. Are Burgmans a better ride? What about older Honda scooters? Should I keep both? Does having two scooters make sense? What about an NC750x?

This is everything I'm trying to work through.

Honda CB300R or BMW G310GS

I am considering one the two bikes, used, to add as my full sized motorcycle (I also ahe a scooter and CT125). I have sat on the Honda and found it comfortable, but there isnt a BMW nearby. Anyone have any experience with either?

I mostly ride on back roads (paved farm roads), and state roads. I'm never on the thruway, but I'm in NY so potholes and rough pavement can be a factor.

I'm 6'2" 160lbs. I like smaller displacement bikes. I want a CRF300l, but I have had a 250 Rally before and cross winds here are not fun.

Multiple Bikes, Same Problem. What's Next?

I need a sounding board for my bike situation, mosty what to get next (or to just use what I have).

I am 6'2" 160lbs and 36yo with a bum knee, I live in Western rural NYS, I only drive on 55mph roads or less, and I have only been riding for a few years.

I currently have a Honda CT125 and a Honda ADV 160. I have also previously owned the bikes below and included the reason I got rid of them. Both bike I have make do, but I have days where I really could use just a little extra - whether for fun or because weather and wind require it. I don't mind having three bikes, and frankly don't count my CT125 because I bought that knowing that could be handed down to my son. That said, I know it's excessive.

I really like having a scooter - it's nice to just get on and go. But I also really like the ability to get on a motorcycle and shift gears. Whether it's ADHD or that I truly haven't found the right bike yet, idk. I do want something either different that would get rid of the ADV160, or something more in the budget category to add.

It's hard being in a rural market because nothing is super close by, and there aren't a ton of motorcycle dealers near me. I've considered an older CB knowing it may need work, crf300l, klx 230 or 300, cb300r, a Royal Enfield, NC750X, BMW C400GT, BMW G310GS.

I just need help steering myself in the right direction.

I am sure it will be thought of so I'll mention it, but I fortunately have either broken even or made money on my bike transactions other than the XR. I am not just bleeding money every year, just time.

- 250l Rally (I bought this after my CT125. It gets windy here. I was like a sail in the wind, and was really uncomfortable with how top heavy the bike was. Otherwise, I loved it. I ended up trading it for a Yamaha XMax 300)

- XMax 300 (I also really liked the XMax and like scooters in general, my biggest problem was that my knees sat above my hips in a way that was destroying my back. I couldn't fix it with seat pads, handlebar adjustments, etc.) I got rid of this and bought the ADV, and the XR shortly after.

XR150L (I actually regret getting rid of this bike even though it was slow. It was by far the most comfortable bike I have owned. It was just a smidge slow).

CB500X (I really thought this bike was going to be it. I didn't enjoy it. It felt soulless. I like smaller displacement and lighter bikes because they have character to them. This was just boring as all hell, and I also wasn't as comfortable as I thought I would have been. I didn't try to change anything though either).

High Cover Panel With Two Tone Cabinets

I have a high 90x24 cabinet next to uppers and lowers in a two cabinet setup. I installed the cover panel that matches the top cabinet (White), but I am realizing it then won't match the bottoms (green).

Do I cut at the counter and do a green fill piece, or is there another tip/trick?
