Jme being discontinued

Oof… so I just got an email from Jme TV, for those of you familiar with the service, that it is sadly going to be discontinued in March. They specifically cited a decrease in subscribers making it difficult to continue running, which is just a little depressing given how few legal options our community has already, and how many workarounds have been getting struck as of late.

I had been an on and off subscriber to it, but not consistent, largely due to how expensive the Live Streaming package is, and how free shows are typically available in the On Demand. Even so, it really had potential, since it gave an outlet for TV that I feel is far more representative of a bulk of the types of shows that are shown on TV in Japan than what gets licensed for Netflix.

All that being said, I just can’t justify $25.99 a month for the quantity of what is available through it… and as a Nikkei individual it makes me really sad how few legal and affordable options there are to engage with my own culture in ways beyond just anime and hard hitting dramas (as much as I like both of those).

Searching for episodes of Tenchijin

Hey all! I realize this is a bit of a stretch, but I’m currently looking for episodes 1-12 of Tenchijin in any format. I recently got back into Taiga dramas when I found a set of DVDs that I acquired for Tenchijin waaaaay back in the day, but sadly I seem to be missing the first two discs.

I’ll be happy if there are any of those 12 episodes out there, but in particular I’d be thrilled to find episodes 1 & 2 as they always resonated very deeply with me. If anyone by some miracle has those first 12 on DVD and is looking to sell, I’m definitely interested.

I’d be down to exchange as well, for anybody looking for episode 13 onwards, though I’d need to figure out a means of ripping/copying the DVDs that I do have, which were recorded copies of US subtitled broadcasts.

It seems that releasing DVD/Blu-Rays of the stage shows is a relatively new-ish thing (like, some time in the 2010s, right? Unless I’m wrong?) I’ve always wanted to see a big G-Rosso Stage Show and now that we’re in the hiatus years, I guess that won’t be happening any time soon.

But I know the power of the internet is an amazing thing, so I was wondering if anybody knows of somewhere that I might be able to buy a copy of old shows, or could point me in a direction where I might be able to catch them. I did also see a handful of them listed on the cat site, but not many for some of my favorite series.
