Tenjin Bust from Blackforge Games (texture resin vs abs-like)

First off, here’s my finished Tenjin Bust. It is one of the fine models from Blackforge gaming.

Looking back, I should have chosen a darker color palette for the armor to better show off the armor, or I should’ve spread the secondary lighting a bit more.

Anyway, I’ve been using anyvubic 14k texture resin for these sculpts and other 1:6 or 1:10 scale projects and I consistently get failures. Is texture resin better for smaller scale like 32mm?

Gonna try more stuff at this scale with abslike resin in hopes that I get less cracking or pieces falling off of the supports.

CnC on the model is welcome. Not sure what subreddit there is for this type of stuff.

C&C second attempt at cel shading. Better than the first but not by much

So here is a small mini broly that I’m working on. I tried to use markers and various black paints for the lining and I’m learning that perhaps I am just horrible at edge highlighting

My two main struggles (imo) are

  1. how to create distinct highlights/midtones that are easily separated from the shadows
  2. establishing where I can put black lines and where I shouldn’t.

Like it really felt like a mistake to try to edge highlight the hair with black. But maybe that worked? I could’ve done more prominent black lining on the boots areas (around the gems and the front foot) but I didn’t know if that would be too much.

And quite frankly, at this scale it’s a lot harder than at say 1:6 scale.

First attempt at OSL and NMM

This bust is from loot studios I believe the Scarlet Requiem bundle. Anyway, my first attempt at non metallic metal and osl.

I really struggled with the NMM and after hours put in, I feel no closer to understanding how to place it on large panels. I think areas like space marine trim I could work it out better but it just did not work out for me on this.

I failed to go back into the sword here and darken up parts of it with some gray but can always do that later.

Any tips on how I can add “more” to the OSL? I’m thinking a blue tone to the glow I just didn’t know how or where to apply it.

Also any tips on how to learn NMM? My biggest issue is when I put the highlights or contrast down, it just looks like I put paint on the mini. It doesn’t give the blend or transition between the two colors and I have no clue how to soften that.

I used a pdf guide from craftworldstudios to paint this. Used my own color variations since I couldn’t match this as much. My NMM gold was a failure but my first time trying it. Also the turquoise jewels came out looking ugly and I don’t understand how the craftworld people made those so much better lol.

I’m not really sure that my final product even represents the purpose of underpainting. All I can say is that this is quite unique compared to other things I’ve painted.

How can I improve the NMM gold and any suggestions on how to work up a gradient on the turquoise jewels?
