964 Pinocchio

I think 964 Pinocchio is one of the worst examples of people confusing ambiguity with depth.

Before anyone says “you just didn’t get it,” I read the common interpretations afterward. I know the themes people attribute to it: dehumanization, becoming human, identity, body horror as psychology, etc.

My problem isn’t the ideas. My problem is that I don’t think the movie actually communicates them.

Every defense I read starts with, “Well, this scene represents…” or “It’s meant to symbolize…” But almost none of those meanings are established by the film itself in a way that felt understandable to me while watching it.

If I have to read essays after the credits just to understand the basic premise of the protagonist, that’s a failure of storytelling, not a sign of genius.

I love psychological horror. I love symbolism. I love movies that leave room for interpretation.
Interpretation is great.

Having to build the movie yourself because it refuses to communicate its own narrative isn’t.

So here’s my question:
Where is the line between “this movie trusts its audience” and “this movie failed to tell its story”?
I’m genuinely curious where people draw that line, because for me, 964 Pinocchio crossed it by a mile.

Edit: Worst fake deep horror movie I’ve ever seen, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Any better suggestions?

26 years old and debating going to UCF

Hey everyone. I’m 26 and, to be blunt, I kind of spent my 18–25 years screwing around and learning life lessons the hard way. Nothing crazy, just a lot of figuring myself out later than I probably should have.

I’ve been thinking about going back to school and UCF is the obvious choice, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’d be the “old guy” surrounded by a bunch of 18–20 year olds. I know 26 isn’t ancient, but it still feels awkward in my head.

For anyone who started later, went back after taking time off, or knows people who did, was it weird? Did you feel out of place, or did nobody really care?

Just looking for some honest advice. Part of me feels like I missed my chance, and the other part is telling me it’s better to start at 26 than wish I had when I’m 36.

Obsession 2026

I don’t understand how the director is saying it’s not possession, because when the real Nikki speaks she says “she’s asleep, don’t wake her up, kill me” like it’s obvious some love witch demon thing. And if the willow isn’t cursed, why can we hear Nikki screaming in purgatory on the phone

In the beginning she’s literally fighting the entity possessing her, from “okay good night, to being all lovey dovey immediately, to what that fuck is happening? I’m being crazy lol I’m going inside, immediately back to noooo I wanna stay, let’s go to your house! *gets in car*

Ritual Cat sacrifice. Nothing deeper than that, demon possession movies do that all the time

The “Not Me” picture, another proof that this is not the real Nikki and she’s trying to communicate from wherever she’s at

The face distorting and the “I’m watching you sleep” classic paranormal activity vibes, more possession proof

The party when real Nikki breaks free for a sec, says “he’s got me!!” Before smashing her face with a bottle.

She literally turns into a deadite type being, looking very much as does Regan does in the exorcist, literally the same projectile lime green vomit attack happens.

Then, you have the odd creepy walk in the background at the end, and the reverse walking scene, and the fact that we get real Nikki back at the end, when Bear dies, and the wish possession curse thing ends. Because as we all saw, possession Nikki was gonna kill herself when she saw Beat die, but SINCE he died, wish is done, Nikki realizes there’s a gun in her mouth, stops and then sees the aftermath of everything that just happened.

I also think it’s just a spooky movie with no real “deeper” meaning that I see a lot of opinions online are trying to give to it. Like “it’s actually the cat possessing her, or “This screaming part was REAL NIKKI BREAKING THROUGH!” I disagree, I think that’s reading to deep into it.

It’s simply just a good horror movie. 8/10.

Dub vs Sub debates - is the DB fandom really this harsh about it?

Lately I've been diving deeper into Dragon Ball again and engaging more with the fandom online. One thing that surprised me is how aggressive people can get over dub vs sub discussions, especially with all the different versions of DBZ out there (Japanese score, Faulconer/ Toonami score, Kai, Ocean dub, etc.).

Personally, I've started appreciating both versions for different reasons instead of treating it like one has to
"win." The original Japanese version has its strengths, but the English dub and Toonami/Faulconer era are a huge part of why a lot of us fell in love with Dragon Ball in the first place.

I'm planning on going to my first anime convention this year, so I'm curious:

Is the fandom actually this divided in real life too, or is it mostly just an internet thing? (It's TERRIBLE on instagram, and I haven't done enough Reddit lurking to know if it happens here too

Can fans openly enjoy the English dub/Faulconer score without getting looked down on by purists, or are people generally more chill in person?

Would love to hear different perspectives respectfully.

Feel free to add details as of why, Thank you
