What is your opinion on Lime scooters on campus?

Personally, I've seen Lime scooters blocking accessibility, dangerous driving, and other things. What have you seen and what are your opinions? (This 'survey' is for a class)

Preventative maintenance at 100k miles?

I recently bought a 2001 Toyota Corolla with a little under 100k miles, and I'm wanting to do a maintenance overhaul at 100k so this car lasts years and years. What are the big things I should look at/ replace regarding the entire vehicle, not just the engine. If possible, help me understand why I need to do these things (life is about learning) I.e "Replace X because Y might happen if you don't"

For context:

1.8 NA 4 cyl

5 spd manual (original clutch most likely)

Has a timing chain

Has VVT.

I recently bought a 2001 Toyota Corolla with a 5 speed manual, it has 95k miles. I watched some youtube videos on how to drive a manual (shout out Conquer Driving) and am able to commute to and from work without much issue. These videos are great but I'd love to hear from you all. While I am able to drive fine I struggle with some things and would like some advice.

  1. Can someone explain applying the brake then applying the clutch vs applying the clutch then applying the brake when slowing down/stopping.
  2. How can I prevent my car from 'kangarooing' at low speed. i.e. I'll be in slow traffic on the freeway in 1st or 2nd going 10-20 MPH and when I let off the gas the car jerks, do I need to utilize the clutch when going this slow or could this be a mechanical issue/quirk of my car. For context, this only happens when driving slowly as described above and the jerkiness is similar to changing gears without allowing the clutch to rev-match.
  3. How can I shift quicker? It takes me way too long to go from 1st to 2nd to 3rd when starting from a stop and I can tell it pisses off the people behind me. Specifically it takes me awhile to actuate the clutch to the bite point, rev match with the clutch, then put the car into gear (entire process takes me 5-10 seconds). The implications of this is that it probably takes me 30 seconds to go from 0-40mph.
  4. Can someone give tips on how to not burn out a clutch/ damage a gear box.
  5. I've heard about 'coasting' in a manual car and that its a bad thing, I have no idea what this means.
  6. Is using the engine to slow the car down o.k.? i.e. shifting from 5th to 4th to start to slow down for an exit ramp or from 4th to 3rd to slow down for a turn.
  7. I understand that when waiting at a long traffic light its best to put the car in neutral and get off the clutch, what I'm wondering is how long is too long to stay in gear and on the clutch when stopped.
  8. Is double clutching actually useful? Its not something I do but I've hear that people do it.

I understand that for those who have driven manual for years, maybe longer than i've been alive, that these may seem like insane questions but keep in mind I have never driven a manual until 6 days ago when I bought the car. Please be kind and help a stranger out. I invite long winded explanations, practice tips, and other tips on things that I may not have addressed here.
