I’ve never met anyone else with a single palmar crease

I only have it on my left hand. It almost looks like the normal palmar crease tried to form but gave up halfway through. No evidence of mosaic down syndrome from blood testing during my pregnancy and egg donation.

I’m a white female, which makes it even more rare. It’s twice as common in males, and white people have the lowest baseline rates.

When your dasher steals your order, they charge you twice

I ordered Panera at 11am for lunch. First dasher stole the order and eventually got pushed to a different dasher. Order ultimately arrived 2 hours later after I was already gone, never got the order and got charged twice.

Fuck this godforsaken app I will never use it again. They won’t even refund me for ONE.

It’s in dispute with my bank now. I tipped well too. The tip is also included in both charges lmfao.

Pen-Pin merger in the PNW?

I was 19 and in college when someone first pointed out to me that I pronounce “Ben” like “bin.” I had no idea I was doing this. They had to repeat it multiple times before I could even hear the difference they were pointing out.

I realized I also merge pen and pin, ten and tin, etc. I was insecure about it for a while and it took me some time to consciously correct it. Even now, I’ll merge them if I’m not paying attention.

What’s interesting to me is that I grew up in Southern Nevada, but I was born in Western Washington and both of my parents are from the PNW. My dad is from Hillsboro, Oregon and has the merger, and my mom is from the Olympia, Washington area and also has it. My maternal grandparents have it too.

I know the pin pen merger isn’t typically associated with the PNW, so I’m curious if there’s something about certain areas of Oregon/Washington that could explain this, or if it’s just a really weird coincidence

Would’ve been $708 if I didn’t lose my glove lol.

I straight up went into a sporting store and bought the gear off the shelf when I decided I wanted to play again. How’d I do?

Stick flex as a woman

Should I drop from a 65 flex to a 55? (5’8”, 147 lb female). I’m looking for some advice on stick flex because I’m wondering if my stick is part of the reason I’m struggling with my shot. I’m a woman, 5’8,” currently 147 lb, but I’m only 2 months postpartum and normally sit around 135 lb. Right now I’m using a 65 flex (this stick sat outside in the Vegas heat and direct sunlight for about 2.5 years because I didn’t think I’d ever play hockey again). I’m not sure if that could have affected the stick, but it feels pretty dead. When I shoot, I can’t get the shaft to bow or flex at all. It doesn’t seem to load unless I’m putting absolutely everything I have into it. I also have a hard time lifting the puck unless I’m really trying to load the stick as much as possible.

I’m wondering if I should move down to a 55 flex, or if this sounds more like a technique issue than a flex issue. I used to be able to lift pucks and shoot well consistently.

Mainly wondering if it would help because I saw a PWHL player who is my exact same size say that she uses a 55 flex lol

I caved

4th birthday present. He wants to be a goalie, but I told him he has to try every other position first (to save my wallet mostly). He even (tried) to put them on himself!

Funniest drill names

What were the funniest hockey drill names you had as a kid? I don’t remember anything out of the ordinary (I quit pretty young), but I saw someone in a TikTok comment say they had a drill called “sh*t on a dirty toilet at a gas station” and was curious what else is out there

Is it okay to just pick a stick side for my 4 year old?

I don’t know if this might cause some long term issues with shooting/handling. Basically, we had a friend donate a bunch of left handed sticks (top hand right, bottom hand left). He’s about to be 4 in a few weeks, is just now competent enough at skating to start going to stick and pucks, and I’m just letting him use the left handed sticks to not waste money by getting a straight stick. He’s definitely right handed though

How to get back into hockey as an adult? (Great skater, terrible puck skills, maybe some knowledge deficits)

I played house league for about 5 years as a kid (never made a travel team although I only tried out once). I also have a background in figure skating. I’m a great skater! On the downside, my puck skills are absolutely terrible.

When I was 20, a spot opened up on a women’s team that a friend of mine played on, so I jumped in for a season. It was fun, but it mostly just exposed some major gaps in my game. Because I never really learned the deeper strategy as a kid, I was offsides constantly simply because I didn't fully get the rules. To make matters worse, I have a bad habit of "fear passing" the second the puck touches my stick, I've only scored one legitimate full-ice goal in my life, and yes... I once scored on my own goalie because I completely blanked out and wasn't paying attention.

Now that I'm a little older (24 but I’m postpartum with baby #2 lol), I care a lot more about the game and genuinely want to improve, learn proper positioning, and get better with the puck.

Should I look for an adult "Learn to Play" class to rebuild my fundamentals from scratch? Or should I just jump straight into a low level beer league and try to improve as I go?

For those who sucked as kids and returned to the game as adults, what helped you the most with hockey IQ and puck control? Any tips or advice would be amazing! I’m not opposed to being a goaltender either, I just have no idea where to start with that.
