Mahindra Thar chassis replaced, old chassis allegedly discarded by service centre — can NC/consumer forum help?
My Mahindra Thar was involved in an accident and the chassis was replaced by the authorised Mahindra service centre with a new blank chassis.
The problem is that the original chassis was apparently sold/discarded by the service centre before the RTO process was completed. I still have the original chassis-number portion/metal piece and the vehicle’s original identification plate under the driver’s seat.
I approached the RTO to get the original chassis number restamped on the replacement chassis, but I’m now being told that a new chassis number may have to be issued.
This has put me in a difficult situation because the old chassis is no longer available for physical verification, despite the replacement being carried out by an authorised service centre.
I’m considering filing an NC/police complaint regarding the disposal of the old chassis and also approaching the Consumer Forum/NCDRC for deficiency in service.
Has anyone dealt with a similar chassis replacement case? Can the service centre be held responsible for disposing of the old chassis before the RTO matter was resolved? Would an NC/police complaint or consumer case actually help?
