I have never listened to these albums; am I missing out on something?
TLDR: should I give Hard Candy/MDNA/Rebel Heart/Madame X a try?
Sorry for self-posting. Also I'm not a native English speaker but I didn't use a translator.
So I am 35 years old, and I have been fond of Madonna's music for about ten years.
I really discovered her and enjoyed her music through Ray of Light, but I already knew the first two albums. I kinda liked them but they sounded a bit outdated for my taste.
After Ray of Light, I dove into the rest of her nineties discography: Erotica, Bedtime Stories. And I loved these albums too. So I then went on and discovered Music, American Life, loved them as well. Confessions on a Dance Floor took me a little bit more time to fully enjoy because I was initially attracted to the depth of Madonna's universe, as you can guess.
And this leads me to my question (that's what I thought when I wrote that but from the looks of it I couldn't help giving context to my appreciation for M)
I can't help but find Hard Candy's artwork really cringey and never got to actually give it a chance. And since my appreciation for her is only a part of my musical culture, plus the fact that I knew that starting from COADF she started following trends instead of having the kind of feel for musical subcultures she used to display, I also never gave the following releases a chance. Also I guess I was a bit of an ageist?
But time flew by and I never stopped listening to the albums I love, and then CII was released. I absolutely love it. That's my queen. If I may.
So I am wondering, as the title says, if I'm really missing out on something when it comes to the second part of her 21st century releases?
I am not into mainstream pop, modern rnb, latin rythmics and I have a preconception that it's basically what it's gonna be. Am I wrong? Where should I start? I usually enjoy listening to records from the first to the last track and don't isolate standout tracks. Is it worth it?
Thank you for reading all of this!
