I recently got offered a position at a private practice family practice facility as a medical assistant. I didn’t think I would get the job offer but they liked my job background. The pay is $21/hr and goes up after 3 months depending on my performance. Then it’s every year. I would be answering and transferring calls, scheduling appointments for patients, and handling medical records.
I currently work as a WFH health insurance agent. I give patients their benefits, claim details, dispute claims with billing agencies, and generate letters. The job can be so stressful at times but I receive decent support when answering patient’s inquiries. This job is very metric based and we are graded for every portion of our calls. I’m currently on a corrective action plan due to a lot of life changes affecting my mental. My metrics have been going up, but they have recently changed the scoring of calls without notifying anyone and so it’s been hard for me. I’ve picked up my metrics but it’s been hard to meet one regarding the evaluation of our calls. My supervisor told me the worst case scenario is that I’ll be put in a secondary corrective action plan and I know by that timeframe I will be meeting once I get a hold of the new call curriculum. I do enjoy this job and the company that I work for. The calls can be a little stressful but I’m happy that I do receive support from my colleagues time to time.
I’m just looking for a comfy office job, contemplating leaving my current job because I know that I would be able to get a higher position once I get my metrics sorted because they hire from within which would mean higher pay. The pay is $20.95/hr but we do get pay raises based on our performance. I also work from home, which is nice since I have a pet cat.
The medical assistant position is in person and only a 20 minute bus ride. It’s way more personable since it’s a private practice and they said they see up to 30-50 patients a day. I’m used to high volume settings but the shift back to working in the office is a little anxiety inducing. Not to mention, there are no real opportunity to grow a career or to be ‘ hired within ‘ like my current job. I just want to make the best decision for myself financially and won’t suffer from extreme burnout from. I’m even open to hearing other experiences with either profession
