Looking for suggestions to freak out my book club 😅

These girls are all my good friends so I know they’ll take it in stride. They are always lightly teasing me that I read the weirdest books.

It’s my month to pick again and I need 4-5 books that the group will vote on to read. In the past I have picked Boy Parts, Lapvona and Bunny. The discussions were hilarious and so fun.

What do you suggest to people when you want to make them squirm?

Did anyone else hate this book?

I just felt like nothing really happened? To me, it was a lot of words to get a very small/obvious point across. And the last 1/3 of the book was just pure stress! I don’t need 50 pages of describing the assembly of a dessert, then 25 more about fitting into a dress. I see this getting recommended here a lot and I just did not enjoy it 😅

I’m so deep in my codependency and my life has become insane.

My husband was the greatest guy in the world when I met him 13 years ago. He was a quiet and gentle soul. He was hard working, selfless and so so kind. I could not wait to be his wife. I thought I had chosen a really perfect partner.

After we got married, we wanted to have a baby and discovered it would be very difficult for us to conceive. It honestly ruined me emotionally and I spend a very long time feeling depressed, hopeless and generally unwell. The fertility issues were on his end and he was devastated that he was “causing” this pain for me. So devastated that he began seeking comfort in drinking and not having to think about it. It all spiraled from there.

2 years later, he’s been in rehab twice, got a DUI, has wrecked both of our cars, lost his job, our insurance, most of his friends, and now stays at his dad’s house. His dad is also an alcoholic and does nothing. He can’t complete his court ordered IOP because he always ends up having an attendance problem due to his drinking. He has a court date in August because he was involved in a hit and run car accident.

This morning he showed up to our house in an uber and demanded he be let in so he could get clothes for a job interview. He was clearly very drunk. I was late for work and just said goodbye and told myself I’d deal with him later. Apparently the job interview was real and he showed up to it completely trashed. I had to call his dad to come get him after.

Why do I still think he can change? What is wrong with me? Why do I stay with him? Why do I even speak to him? I feel so stupid for loving him but I can’t stop. I feel like I’m as much of an addict as he is and I hate it.
