I ask because I've gotten maybe a handful but I've been in group chats where authors were bragging they got hundreds for their debut novel.
Second question: Does having a low amount of ARC readers guarantee a bad launch?
I've completed two novels so far. When I wrote both of them, it was never my intention to write to market. I guess I'm paying for that now because it feels like nobody is even interested in reading them. I feel burnt out constantly trying to get ARCs and using social media etc. The only people who seem interested are trying to get something from me. That is really discouraging.
Part of me thinks I should stop caring and just let things fall as they may. This is starting to become a second full-time job that I have to spend money on rather than earn it.
My book comes out in October but I wish I could just release it today to get it over with.

I'm trying to build a mailing list basically from zero by releasing an exclusive short-story prologue from my upcoming novel, 'Nimue and the Terror King.'
It's a literary-style fantasy that appeals to young/new adults.
If anyone has any advice because this is the first time I'm trying to do this, I'd really appreciate it.
