German poem + translation

Here’s a German poem I wrote and translated literally into English.

Meine Nächte gehören dir

Die Sonne verabschiedet sich und der Gedanke an dich tritt ein,
Was bedeutet Freiheit in der Nacht,
denke ich nur an dich bin ich alleine.

Meine Nächte gehören dir, ich bleibe stehen.
Ich kann und darf und will es nicht,
dass wir uns wiedersehen.

My Nights Belong to You

The sun bids farewell,
and every thought returns to you.
What freedom can the night hold,
when thinking of you, I only do in solitude?

My nights belong to you
I stand still.
I cannot, I must not, I don’t want
for us to meet again.

The wrath of an avalanche

I can’t write it rhythmically
But the lack of your words makes me want to SHOUT and SCREAM biblically.

A week there is of silence, bitter.
A week of wait, a tiny splinter.

It only takes >!one phrase!< setting of an avalanche that

CRUSHES

ROARS

CONSUMES

BURIES

It is my behavior that bothers you,
My eyes are lost in all this mayhem,
It is you that makes the unkind be what I take to,
I suck in all the hatred
to twist and turn you-
until it all has blurred to you
and you start to doubt yourself
and what is true.

I fuse a little more with malice
Oh to punish you back and to make you feel worse than you made me

Because every vicious avalanche has its victims.
I’m sorry you triggered it.
But nature never chooses its dead.

And I wonder myself what makes me kiss the thought of people whom I despise-
What makes me want to take in their wrath and lies.

But through that restlessness
my warmth makes its return.
And I quietly mourn the sleep I lost and yearn.

Day breaks at last across the aching night,
I close my eyes and choose the kinder right.
