Happy sour cherry season to all who celebrate!

A note: sour cherry season is always pretty short, but this year (at least in the mid-Atlantic where I am) the supply is even more limited. There was a freeze in April that seemed to really impact the crop. The two orchards I go to for Pick Your Own didn’t have that option this year. So if you’re looking for sour cherries, make sure you get them while the getting is good!

Third pregnancy and I’m realizing I took my second pregnancy for granted

When I was in the first trimester with my son, my daughter was ~11 months old. I could put her in baby jail, lie down, and she could play on/around me while I rested. I affectionately called this Horizontal Parenting.

Fast forward to now. I’m 8+5 with this pregnancy and I am being rocked by first tri symptoms. I am very lucky in that I never throw up in pregnancy, but I’m nauseous all the time and staying awake is a Herculean feat. My daughter is almost 4 and my son is 2 and they require MORE than a baby did. They want to go to the park, go to the library, do activities. Plus, in my second pregnancy, my daughter was still napping, so at least I could nap while she napped. She doesn’t nap anymore. I’m just raw dogging every day.

I know I’m close to getting more energy back, but I feel like such ass right now. Physically feel terrible and I also feel bad that I’m not able to give as much to my kids.

And FUCK past me for thinking we didn’t need to do any camps this summer.

Pregnant SAHMs — how did you handle the first trimester exhaustion?

This will be my third kid and I am struggling. When I was pregnant with my second and in the first tri, my daughter was only like ~11 months old and I could nap when she napped. My daughter is now 3.5 and does not nap and my son is 2 and naps once a day. I have luckily never had much in the way of nausea/morning sickness, but the exhaustion knocks me on my ass. Any tips or tricks to either sneak in naps or to regain some energy?

Berry Crisp with Seedy Granola Topping

Ya know what? There is really something to be said for a one page Claire recipe. I’ve been sleeping on WFD and I’m excited to try out more of the recipes.

Blueberry “buckwheat” skillet pancake

Normally I do not stray from Claire’s gospel, but if you’re going to meddle with any recipe, this is a very forgiving one. I used regular flour for the entire thing (no buckwheat) and didn’t let it rest the entire hour (my fault, I didn’t read ahead and the toddlers would have rioted). Still, though! The texture is more eggy than you might expect, but ultimately very easy, very tasty, would repeat again.
