Root stock producing a lot fruit

I’m in Altadena CA in January 2025 we were hit by the Eaton fire, although we didn’t lose our house we were still impacted. The winds that night were devastating on my avocado trees. I had one in the back yard that the wind just pushed it over. This tree was growing crooked and leaning. There were root stock shoots growing opposite that I left with hopes they would work as a counter balance. Obviously that didn’t happen, the tree fell nonetheless. This tree is use to produce an abundance of Hass avocados where that part of the tree fell. I tried to graft green branches from the fallen tree back to tree, but none took. However the shoots from the root stock took off! It’s been about 20 months since the event and the tree has nearly rebounded to its original size! Crazy! I was surprised to see an abundance of these root stock avocados on the tree. It’s my understanding they are not great in flavor?? The tree is pretty loaded. I was tempted to pull it and start over but the decision is difficult considering the health it is in. What are your thoughts on this fruit?

Big Pine Hike in a day

Hello, we are planning a trip to Mammoth in a couple weeks. We were thinking of heading out a day early and stop in Big Pine. We are coming from Pasadena CA so the drive there is about 3.5 hours. I’m traveling with my wife and two teenage sons. I like to do the North Lake loop to Lake #2. My wife thinks we won’t have the time and thinks it’s a little too long? If we do this we’ll stay the night in Big Pine city then proceed to Mammoth the following day. Is this doable? Are there other options up there maybe not as difficult/long? This will be our first time visiting Big Pine. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else remember Sha Na Na

This was a variety show about greasers in the late 70’s early 80’s. They would live perform oldies hits from the 50’s. We loved it as a kid and it was funny too. I appreciate that greaser look. Sha Na Na performed at Woodstock and were the band during the dance for the movie Grease, called Johnny Casino and the Gamblers. Not sure what happened to these guys.

Wind and Scuba at Ambergris

We dove Hol Chan the other day, yes there’s an abundance of life, but because it is so shallow, I would recommend just to snorkel. They took us near the opening where it is deeper 20-25’ but the current from the tide made it a struggle to swim back. There’s a lot of people! If there’s an opportunity to go outside the reef, do it! The wind has been relentless. Fortunately yesterday after the rain there was a window of opportunity and we were able to do Esmerelda and Tackle Box, the visibility was about 30-40 down due to wind. The dive was good we saw reef sharks.

Scuba in Ambergris when windy

Hello, we are currently staying in San Pedro. We had to cancel a couple of trips because of wind. Our dive guide mentioned we can scuba Hol Chan inside the reef to avoid wind. We already did a snorkel trip here, not sure if it’s worth it? Are there decent places to scuba dive here when windy?

San Pedro Affordable Eats

Hello, we just arrived in San Pedro. Our airbnb is near the Hula Bar we just did our first meal there. The food here was good but on the pricey side. I took my kids so I am hoping I can find more affordable options that have good food. I don’t need the cheapest, but I can’t be spending $30 US on burgers either every time. I have a three teen boys that can eat! Recommendations highly welcomed. Thank you!

Ambergris Caye Scuba Sites

Hello,
We have a trip coming up in mid June and me and my two sons are scuba divers. We need help with recommendations for dive spots that are attainable for our budget and time. As dad is footing the bill cost is a factor. I don’t want to be cheap either as we didn’t come all the way here to nickel and dime everything. But, it would be nice timo know what the dives cost so I can budget. I’m hoping to get at least three 2 tank dives in. I’m hearing different things about the blue hole that it’s not worth the cost? We are into sea life, we enjoy sharks and other interesting sea life. I’m thinking we can do maybe two more local dives and one of the further out reef dives. Thank you in advance for ant feedback, suggestions, and cost estimates.

What variety is this

I live in Altadena CA This tree originally was producing Hass. Last year during the Santa Ana winds that started the Eaton fire the winds knocked down my tree. I tried to start a graph from the fallen branches onto the trunk, it did not take. However there were a few sucker stalks growing from the base. These took off! It appears now i have a different variety emerging from these stalks, they appear unknown to me. Any ideas? They appear totally different. I assume it was grafted.

I planted this tree about 8 years ago, the first 2-3 years it pumped out fruit. Then it started slowing on fruit and overall growth. This year in spite of having a decent amount of flowers there are only a couple pieces of fruit. I have done minimal pruning and mulch the area every few years.
