What's Your Credit Situation?

Hello All,

I would like to hear from people who are already 3-10 years into PSLF, or have reached forgiveness - particularly for balances > $100K.

I have only student loan debt - and quite a bit (grad school). I have a PSLF-eligible job and have a handful of credits, and plan to complete the full 120 barring any major change of course.

Credit score 750+. No credit card debt. I have roughly $10K worth of open credit line utilization stays between 0-30%, always pay off quickly. No mortgage. I own my car. No late payments, never had a bankruptcy or lein or eviction or anything. I make near the median income and that will go up.

And yet I can't get a credit card. I tried 2 different ones (actually applied for 1 where CreditKarma say odds were "Outstanding" and just asked my bank to increase my limit by a very modest amount). Denials across the board.

Is this how it's going to be for the next 10 years? Is my debt-to-income ratio going to ruin my chances of expanding my credit or assets? I'd like to buy a house in the next 5 years but if I can't even get a credit card, I can't imagine I'll be able to secure a big asset.

TLDR: Did PSLF keep you in a horrible position credit-wise, or did you find a way around it or what?

Thanks!

$1000 to Park - Where?

Hi There,

I've been following a while and I'm learning a lot, but most are specific questions and I want to get even more basic:

If I have $1000 to do something with today (emergency fund is already in place), how do I get started? What app/bank/website do I go to? What documentation do I need? How do I watch my money grow? How do I add to it? How do I make it come straight out of my paycheck, or as a direct transfer from my bank?

I want something easy, automatic, low-risk, and hopefully with over 8% compound growth I see in these investment calculators? Or should part of it go to HYSA at 3-4% and part go to a higher return that I don't plan to touch for 25+ years? Either way it needs to be something I can make monthly deposits to easily. Convenience and accessibility will be my friend here.

I really have no idea how to get started. I'm really learning a lot but if I let myself say "I'm still learning," I'll never get started and time is a tickin'. Thanks!

Don't let booze sabotage you

Hello lovely community,

As someone who quit drinking long before I quit Zyns, I gotta say:

I watch a lotta folks on this subreddit relapse to nicotine when they drink - even if they may not have a drinking problem. And sometimes it's straight back to cigs instead of Zyns, which seems to me like taking 1000 steps back.

I think it would benefit anyone considering quitting nicotine to also cut booze for the length of time it will take them to really engrain the habit - say 90 - 180 days, and then be very careful re-introducing alcohol. It may help considerably.

Just a thought. Congrats to all my homies who made it nicotine-free today! 🥳

Water Purification Question

Hi All,

Few questions here:

  1. If these both have the same exact ingredients, what makes the PA+ different, if anything?

  2. Is there anything on the package or the bottle that can give me an idea of their manufacture or expiration date? I don't really see any stamps except Lot #.

  3. How long are they good for provided I can determine their age? Is it useless if expired, or can you just let the treatment sit longer or what?

Thanks for any help!

Hi All,

Okay so spilling the beans:

smoked cigs 8+ years >

vaped probably 10 >

switched to Zyns about a year ago >

used gum about a month >

have been nicotene-free roughly 6 weeks.

And I'm struggling!

I feel like I have totally replaced it with eating. I've gained 10 lbs already.

I am restless often. I feel like something's always "missing," and I'm more irritable.

I already have issues with focus and they've gotten worse.

I don't really know why I'm posting this but glad this community's here. I don't want to go back, my workplace has instituted a nicotene-free policy, and while that wasn't my reason, I don't want to trigger that.

How long does this last? Anything ya'll have found that helps?

Thanks for listening and any advice!

Re: Pinellas county schools, would like thoughts on:

A) Palm Harbor University High

B) East Lake High

C) Countryside High

I am not strictly looking for just ranking/performance - looking for something that matches my kid (mid-high performance, plays sports, in the band, interested in STEM, socially well-adapted but also sensitive and needs a safe environment, loves outdoors and will be walking/biking the area around the school).

Please only answer if you've had kids in these schools or attended yourself.

Thanks in advance!!

Oh I guess I can add a poll too but I would love actually commentary as well!
