Things are going well but should I knock on wood?

I started at 25mg at the very end of July and have worked my way up to 100mg, which I'm now on day 2 at that dose. I had a slight increase in cystic acne at the 1 week mark but have had mostly steady clearing since except for one small cyst that appeared today. It's also day 1 of my cycle which is what I'm most happy with. After so much reading up about spiro I was worried about this med causing problems with irregular cycles but it seems like I'm good for now. For anyone who experienced significant changes to their menstrual cycle, did this happen over time or right from your first period since starting spironolactone? I'm older (45) and approaching perimenopause, and not sure how this will affect that.

Starting spiro today along with aczone. Any experience with this combo?

Hi!

I just took my first 25mg dose of spiro. I've been nervous for years about trying this med for my hormonal acne. I am terrified of purging as I start a new job and asked for something to try and prevent any unhinged breakouts while I adjust to spiro, and was prescribed Aczone 5% to use as a topical. Has anyone else been spared the intense purging from spiro by using aczone?

My instructions for spiro are:

25mg for 14 days, then increase to 50mg for 2 weeks, then start taking 100mg for 3 months, and then follow up with the dermatologist.

How common is it to start at a lower dose of 25mg? I see most people starting out at 50.
