Caitlyn “Count Fagula”: Coincidence? I think NOT - [*Source First Gif: @the-ominous-owl / Source Second Gif: @ArcaneGifs]

I know probably everyone else has already noticed this, but yesterday I was rewatching Season 2 and caught a detail that completely went over my head the first time.

During the fight in Act 1, when Caitlyn bites Sevika’s hand... you can clearly see the screen dripping blood. If you connect the dots, it fits perfectly with the meme the fandom gave her:

  • Act 1: She tastes Sevika's blood.
  • Act 2: Caitlyn walks around wearing the dramatic midnight blue and purple-red cloak gifted to her by Ambessa, a cloak that officially grants her the title of 'Count Fagula'

That meme makes even more sense now!
Fortiche knew exactly what they were doing with those “Count Fagula” vibes:
the transformation was already underway since episode 3! 💀

Jokes aside... the level of detail in the animation during that fight is insane.

*But above all, I’m really happy the writers finally buffed Caitlyn’s hand-to-hand combat skills. Let’s be honest, she used to be pretty weak in that department; seeing her adapt, get tougher, become actually "excellent" at fighting, and do whatever it takes to stand her ground was incredibly satisfying.

Excellent Shot, Terrible Actress: Anatomy of Caitlyn's Most Awkward Moment - [*SOURCE GIF: @ArcaneGifs on Tumblr]

This brothel scene will never stop making me laugh. The sheer amount of awkwardness, tension, and pure comedy packed into just two minutes is so hilariously awkward it kills me every time.

Right before this moment, Vi decides to test Caitlyn's boundaries: she pins her against the wall, sizes her up from head to toe, calls her "Cupcake," and asks if she prefers boys or girls. Up to this point, Caitlyn is visibly (and probably pleasantly) overwhelmed.

But the real comedic masterpiece happens when poor Pim walks by.
Vi drags him over and comes up with the perfect cover name on the spot: "Matilda."

In that exact moment, Caitlyn is literally recalculating her entire life choices. Just look at the sequence of her expressions...the transition from a proud, high-society Piltie girl to "Matilda the (*Mongoose) Pirate" is pure gold:

1. Pure bewilderment:
Caitlyn looks at Vi like, “Are you for real right now?”

2. Total shock and cosmic embarrassment:
Caitlyn is strictly into girls and, honestly, she probably wishes Pim had never been born… even though, deep down, she’s wishing a certain Pink-Haired-Muscle-Mommy was in his place instead.

3. System glitch:
Her eyes darting back and forth between Vi and Pim at least three times, desperately trying to figure out how to process the situation.

4. The clumsiest attempt at roleplay ever:
That "Ah, yes... Matilda" accompanied by a smile so forced and strained that it almost hurts to watch.

The spontaneous birth of "Matilda-Mongoose the Pirate" ...That forced, awkward face is forever burned into my brain.

I just love Caitlyn for how adorably out of her element and goofy she gets the second she steps out of her comfort zone!

Who else loves this moment as much as I do?

Imagine meeting Katie Leung... What’s the one Caitlyn line you’re dying to hear? - (*meme by me)

Honestly, I’d probably lose my ability to speak for a solid minute. But once I remembered how to breathe, I’d have to ask:
'Katie, please... just one time... give me that In what mad world would I trust someone like you?'

That fake-indignant tone she uses with Vi in that scene?
Absolute perfection. I’d probably just evaporate on the spot.
It’s peak Caitlyn

This Mongoose Will Die for You

Every time I rewatch the first season of Arcane, this scene continues to strike me deeply. Immediately after Jinx’s explosion, Caitlyn’s leg is wounded, and she’s exhausted and overwhelmed… yet she doesn’t even hesitate: her first instinct is to protect the ones she loves, just as Jinx starts firing at them.

We see Vi supporting her, with her body forward and feet planted, while Caitlyn, beside her, seems slightly leaning backward… At least that’s what I think I see; the image isn’t very clear due to the bright lights in the background and the way the scene is framed. In any case, when Jinx starts shooting, Caitlyn moves her whole body in front of Vi, trying to shield her as best she can.

Her arm reaches out toward Vi, trying to get in front of her to save her—a brief but powerful gesture that captures the essence of Caitlyn: courage, dedication, and protection even when she’s the one in greatest danger. Small details like this are why I love this character so much.

When they’re knocked backward, the difference in their movements becomes even more noticeable: Caitlyn’s arms are fully open, because a moment before she had been trying to protect Vi with her entire body, while Vi’s arms are slightly extended and begin to close due to the unbalanced force she used to push Caitlyn away.

This Mongoose doesn’t have the slightest regard for herself when it comes to protecting others

From Darkness to Light

(*I've added multiple GIFs of the same moment to show it better in detail, including in slow motion)

edit: I just noticed that gifs 4 and 6 that I posted don't work....I shared them in the comments. sorry!!!!

One thing I find beautiful about Arcane's intros is the way Caitlyn is portrayed through the constant contrast between shadow and light. In my opinion, it's one of the most important visual themes of her character.

In the first season intro, while many characters seem like living statues or sculpted busts, Caitlyn appears almost like a relief set in the wall, imprisoned in her own privileged environment. She's inside an archway that almost resembles a bell jar: something refined and protective, but also profoundly isolating.

She's exposed and protected at the same time, separated from the real world.

And it's interesting that Caitlyn always remains in the shadows, almost hidden within the very reality that should protect her. In the first season, the shadow represents above all her isolation and the feeling of being trapped in a life dictated by others. The Kiramman family constantly tries to keep her away from the brutality of the real world, while Caitlyn truly yearns to experience that world.

She's wearing an Enforcer uniform and holding a rifle, but her gaze expresses determination above all: the desire to emerge from that "container" to understand what exists beyond the confines where she grew up.

This is why I find it significant that a pink light cutting through the darkness ‘frees’ her, a clear reference to Vi. Only after that moment does Caitlyn stop being immobile and finally become dynamic, alive, in action.

Immediately afterward, we see the bullet with the Kiramman crest, recalling the scene of the shooting competition and the conversation with Grayson: "What are you shooting for?"" Ultimately, it's the question that defines her entire journey: what does she really want? What is her goal?

And it's precisely through Vi that Caitlyn begins to find an answer. Not because she's "saved," but because thanks to her, she can finally see the real world: Zaun, the injustice, the suffering that Piltover ignored. Caitlyn understands that her true ambition isn't the prestige of the Kiramman family, but the pursuit of truth and justice.

In the second season, however, the meaning of the shadow changes completely. Cait is no longer a sheltered girl longing to explore the world: she is now within that world, and the darkness comes from within her. The shadows reflect the grief, anger, and hatred that have consumed her since her mother's death.

In the new intro, she is no longer trapped in stone or the protection of her family: this time, she is trapped in the shadow itself. When she first appears, she seems to emerge from a dark blue drape, an almost eerie color. She takes a deep breath before advancing toward the light, as if trying to free herself from the weight of hatred and pain. When she looks at that light, she almost seems to smile: it is a Caitlyn slowly finding herself.

The following scenes seem to summarize her journey throughout the season: first the descent into darkness, then the first signs of a return to herself.

When Caitlyn and Vi are shown together, Vi gazes at her intensely while Caitlyn remains almost completely shrouded in shadow. We don't even see her eyes. It's as if she's losing herself and everything Vi means to her.

Then there's the moment when it seems like they're about to embrace, but Caitlyn pushes her away, and both are thrown backward into the darkness. It's the perfect reflection of episode 3: Caitlyn chooses to let herself be consumed by hatred for Jinx, also pushing away the person who most kept her anchored to her moral compass.

But the most powerful scene of the intro, in my opinion, is the one where Caitlyn sits with her head in her hands, desperate, almost in a state of panic, while her shadow forms a kind of crown behind her. It doesn't look like a glorious crown: it seems heavy, oppressive. It represents the full weight of the Kiramman legacy after Cassandra's death. Caitlyn suddenly finds herself crushed by responsibilities, expectations, and pain she can't handle.

But immediately afterward, she looks directly at us, almost as if she's finally found an answer to her torment. In my opinion, this scene perfectly anticipates what happens in the second act: Caitlyn was already beginning to question Ambessa, her hatred, and the path she had taken. There were already the first signs of an inner awakening, the realization that anger and revenge would never truly bring her peace.

This is why I think finding Vi isn't what "changes" Caitlyn, but rather something that reinforces a change that had already begun within her. Vi becomes the emotional motivation that helps her finally find herself and emerge from the darkness in which she had lost herself.

Yet Vi also continues to bring her back to the light.

The theme culminates perfectly in the cell scene. Caitlyn physically distances herself from Vi and the light, stepping into the shadows as she confesses that she was with someone else during their separation. It's almost as if she feels undeserving of that love after all the dark choices she's made: leaving Vi that way, her rise to power, her alliance with Ambessa, the hatred that consumed her.

Yet Vi keeps pulling her back to herself.

And this is what makes their relationship so important in Caitlyn's journey: they continue to help each other in different ways. Vi pushes Caitlyn to look beyond the privileged and limited world she grew up in, to truly see reality and not get completely lost in the darkness of grief. Caitlyn, on the other hand, offers Vi something she hasn't had in years: dignity, trust, a listening ear.

This is why the contrast between light and shadow works so well for both of them. They don't "save" each other unilaterally: they continually support each other, helping each other escape from different prisons, both physical and internal.

Caitlyn doesn't become perfect, nor completely free from her guilt or mistakes. But she stops letting herself be defined by hatred, her family's expectations, or the burden of her legacy.

And that's precisely why, at the end of her journey, the light no longer represents the life others had chosen for her.

It finally represents the person Caitlyn has chosen to become.

A Small Symbolic Detail About Caitlyn

I don't know if this is a misinterpretation, but I find these two moments and the shots very symbolic in Arcane.

In the first season, the mother's full skirt in the portrait symbolized protection and status: Caitlyn was a child, protected by her mother's shadow and the family's rank in general.

In the second season, that same spaciousness becomes oppressive. Caitlyn is no longer protected: looking at the statue from below, she still seems small, almost insignificant in the face of that legacy, as if to show how overwhelmed and inadequate she feels by the weight of her mother's name.

Placing Caitlyn at the foot of a giant statue emphasizes the distance between her and her mother. In the portrait, her mother was close, tangible; in the statue, she has become a huge, cold, unreachable icon. Caitlyn seeks comfort from someone who can no longer respond, and her loneliness is amplified by the fact that the statue dominates the entire visual space, confining her to a corner.

The parallels between the two scenes illustrate the character's growth. In the first season, Caitlyn wanted to step out of her mother's shadow to prove her worth. Now, with her mother gone, she finds herself tragically "trapped" in that shadow. The statue's skirt is no longer a mother's womb, but a pedestal that forces her to look upward, toward ideals of justice and responsibility that are wearing her down.

It's not just an aesthetic reference. The scene is a metaphor for Caitlyn's pain: it shows the moment when she stops being just a daughter and becomes a woman forced to confront the weight of her choices.

The statue is a constant reminder of what she has lost and the burden that now weighs on her shoulders.

Caitlyn's beauty isn't limited to her harmonious features or her "perfect" appearance according to common aesthetic standards. It's not in her shape, her height, the color of her eyes, the small gap between her front teeth, or her voluminous hair.

Her beauty lies in the light she radiates, in that real charm that goes far beyond appearances. It's not a hollow or sterile beauty, like that of any fictional character. It's a charm that stems from her personality and her character.

Caitlyn is fascinating in every way: whether she feels sadness, anger, determination, or love, it all shines through her, all of which makes her incredibly real and magnetic.

Thanks to Fortiche for creating a fictional character… who is so real, though!

And a special thanks to ArcaneGifs for the gifs:

Today we're making a special exception to our usual routine to celebrate an extraordinary milestone: the r/ViArcane subreddit has reached 6k members! 💖

There's something magical... symbolic about this number: the 6, written in Roman numerals, is VI. It's the same symbol Vi has tattooed on his face, a sign of his identity and the bond with our Caitlyn that makes their stories unforgettable.

We want to send a huge round of applause to the entire community and the moderators of r/ViArcane: u/vienforcer, u/cheese-on-everything, and u/rubiks_shark, for creating such a welcoming and heartfelt space. 💖

A special thanks goes to u/rubiks_shark, our multitasking moderator who acts as a bridge between the two subs. Thank you for helping us grow and for managing everything with such passion: you're our pillar between the two "wives"! 😉

As a moderation team, we felt it was only right to celebrate this "sister" community (or rather, "wife"!) that has supported us from the very beginning. Honoring Vi means recognizing a precious part of Caitlyn's world, without ever forgetting our sweet Mongoose. ❤️💙

What happens now?

After this little shared celebration, we'll be back 100% on Caitlyn, continuing to celebrate her elegance, her courage, and every detail that makes this sub so special. But for today...

LET'S PARTY! 🥂✨

Make some noise under this post! Celebrate in the comments with your favorite memes about Vi, Cait, or CaitVi (remember to always credit the artist if the work belongs to an artist)... write your favorite lines/quotes about these two girls... say hello to your friends... say hello to your loved ones... basically, have fun...

Be civil and respect the rules, but damn... let's celebrate properly! 🧁🥊

In these storyboards/concept art, Caitlyn exudes grit, courage, and incredible beauty. We're used to seeing her with her hair up or in her signature ponytail, but these concepts where she appears with her hair loose convey something purely wild.

Those flowing locks exude an even stronger energy and untamed freedom. Her "wild side" in these panels is truly extraordinary!

It almost seems as if these images connect her to a more instinctive part of herself.

I also find the version of her with a cape and beret in the war sequences super interesting.

What do you think of this look? Do you prefer Caitlyn with her hair up or this more "wild" and free version?

...or both?
