maysilee originally owned the pin in both the books and movie (now, as seen in the trailers).

it gets returned to the donners, and merrilee insists on keeping it. but the longer she has it, and the more her grief comes and goes in waves (as would be realistic), the harder it is for her to keep it. so she tries hiding it away, tries to throw it out but changes her mind last second. for years this goes on in the background. she eventually gets married and has madge.

but since the first hunger games film omitted madge, here is how i think it'd end up in the market where katniss in the film gets it.

merrilee as an adult is said to be struggling with health issues and isnt like how she used to be. so because of her mental health, she finally was able to throw out the pin. but it ends up in the market because it's simple: the pin is made of valuable material and its beautifully made, so why not sell it in the market?

eventually the old woman in the market takes it with her other collection of things in the box, where katniss picks it up because she recognizes the mockingjay bird.

the rest is history.

i think to tie it into the movie, haymitch would be given the pin by someone in the capitol or maybe he finds it left behind before he goes home, and he takes it back home with him, and gives it to the donners after the funeral (the scene in the trailer where merilee looks pissed; my headcanon would be haymitch accidentally called her maysilee, she looks pissed, then haymitch snaps out of it momentarily to hand her the pin and then walk away, upset).

i am new to this franchise which is funny because i played stardew first and stardew was inspired heavily by harvest moon/story of seasons.

it took a few restarts for me to finally figure out how this game works. and I'm pretty sure im getting the hang of things without relying on the wiki too heavily.

i finally figured out how to properly care for my animals. my biggest issue is that i read too fast which results in me skimming and i end up not soaking in the info properly. so yes my first few tries, i totally missed on the tutorial on how to properly care for my cow. i legit thought she was dying but it turned out i qas stupidly misfeeding her the wrong thing every day.

right now I'm finally getting used to the rhythm of things and am almost to the end of my first year. and I'm planning on marrying gustafa. i just spammed milk soup and flowers at him and his hearts shot up super fast.

anyone got more tips and tricks as i go into year 2? and anyone else like me who started farm sims with stardew and worked backwards to the source? lol

separation + time skip development theory IS A GO.

yes, it is sad to see it actually happen, but I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN.

now i can only pray for a time skip: i need to see kim dan thriving, being bold and confident on his own. i need to see JK reflecting, acting different to his peers, being more humble, acting on the things he learned (maybe more apologizing to his peers and being kinder to them without losing his essence? i can only hope).

MovieFlame was my go-to guy for hunger games content, but then this dropped and i'm so disappointed in him and his fanbase (in the comments bashing on zutara).

in my opinion, he'd still lose lenore dove.

if haymitch was never reaped, he and lenore dove would still go out and all that, but her rebellious and reckless ways would get her in trouble no matter what. eventually, she'd get herself killed.

she and haymitch would have a bit longer in the reapings, then they'd have to watch sid go through his (because haymitch's family wouldnt have been targeted if haymitch was never reaped and never won, etc.).

either way, his love with lenore dove was always doomed, no matter if he was reaped or not.

do you agree? i just think it's interesting to think about.
