What's Funny in One Language isn't Funny in Another.

Saying "Wow, goth mommy, please lemme smash that booty" doesn't translate to Spanish well. It's only a joke that's really funny in English. We should appreciate how funny our jokes are. The rest of the world don't got humor like we do. Just thinking about our "I need me a goth Latina" jokes gots me cracking up! Sorry if I made a typo. I'm cackling over here!

Albanians Can Speak Albanian, They Just Don't Speak it Around You

People like to label Albanians as rude. Crying about how no one wants to talk about Skanderbeg with them. First of all, who are YOU- or anybody for that matter, to be entitled to a beautiful conversation about Skanderbeg with an Albanian??

You go to Arther Ave, eat some tavë kosi, and all of the sudden you're half a wise guy? A made man with a Mercedes Benz? You are NOT Albanian, alright? The books are closed, no new members. You want to hear some Albanian, listen to some Vaçe Zela. Don't lie to kick it, you wannabe. No Albanian is gonna speak Albanian with you. Go home, learn some Polish and go to Forest Hill. Get over it. You ain't got nun coming to ya

I've Realized that Making Too Many Friends with People that also Have ADHD Can Lead to a "Smell Your Own Farts" Situation

Let me start this post off by clarifying that I'm not trying to discourage people from seeking community. As someone with ADHD, having friends that can relate to the particular struggles of ADHD is very useful. I light up when someone understands what it's like to have restless leg syndrome, or when they understand rejection sensitivity. This also isn't a vent post, as I am no longer really connected with this friend group, and we didn't even end on bad terms. The purpose of this post is to see if others have experienced the same thing, or if others have had different experiences

However, I think that having non-ADHD friends is also useful. Having people that you feel like you have to "keep up" with makes me feel like I have to be stronger, more attentive, and try harder. When my friend group was mostly made up with people that had ADHD, we ended up plateauing. We "understood"our worst aspects. Instead of being pushed to get up, we turned something serious, like laying down all day, into little in-jokes. "Lol, I slept all day AGAIN, guys." It starts to become self-loathing rather than helpful

**Edit**: Rejection Sensitivity is not a Recognized Sympton/Disorder

How Long Do Chinese Families Maintain Total Fluency in their Heritage Language For in Flushing?

I study linguistics in college, and I adore the fluency in Cantonese that's present there. I was wondering if anyone that grew up in Flushing has any insight to Cantonese fluency past 2nd generation Americans. From your experience, how common is it for grandchildren, and even great grand children, to be fully fluent in Cantonese? Do you know any families with deep roots in Flushing who have successfully maintained Cantonese fluency throughout the decades?

A Lot of American Women Can't Tell if You're Speaking Fake Spanish

I love pretending like I'm Latino. I put on a fake, Spanish sounding accent and women melt. Whenever my girlfriend asks me to speak Spanish in bed, I legit just be sayin gibberish. "Me aguagua bonita de sa Ito", and stuff like that. I figured that I'd share this life hack with my fellow white people that are DYING to be spicy white. Say you're from Argentina, and give yourself an Italian last name, or something. Zero Spanish is actually required to make yourself come off as exotic to the average American female

Thank me later, bros
