What types of martial arts are commonly taught to police officers in the United States?

Hello. I’m a Japanese Redditor.

In my country, police officers are required to study three martial arts at the police academy: judo, kendo, and a martial art unique to the Japanese police known as “Taiho jutsu(arrest techniques).” Additionally, a large percentage of police officers have been practicing judo or kendo since their school days.

Unlike karate, judo is a martial art that involves throwing and pinning opponents rather than punching and kicking, so it seems to be considered a good fit for police work.

It also appears to serve the purpose of helping participants acquire the physical strength needed to subdue an assailant and learn the basics of self-defense, as well as cultivating mental resilience through rigorous training.

Kendo has traditionally been popular for several reasons: “It is practiced to develop the physical strength, technical skills, and mental fortitude necessary to subdue violent criminals. It has a historical background dating back to the Meiji era, when Toshiyoshi Kawaji, the first Chief of Police, introduced it for the purpose of physical and mental training and maintaining public order.” Additionally, the “maai” (distance) and situational judgment cultivated through kendo are useful in police work and aid in the handling of batons.

When it comes to martial arts in the U.S., we tend to think of wrestling, boxing, and, more recently, MMA. Do American police officers also practice wrestling or MMA at the police academy?

Did you know that 100 girlfriends anime features collaboration commercial exclusive to the TV broadcast version?

The 100 Girlfriends anime features collaboration content that’s exclusive to the TV broadcast version.

In this segment, a character from 100 Girlfriends (a different one each week) presents the preview for the next episode of the Bang Dream! Yumemita anime.

Incidentally, in the TV broadcast version of the Yumemita anime, the Yumemita characters present the preview for the next episode of the 100 Girlfriends anime (I posted about this on a different subreddit).

Also, at the end of this commercial, there’s a segment (lasting just a few seconds) that airs every week featuring the 100 Girlfriends characters playing “Acchi muite hoi(Look That Way)”, a traditional Japanese children’s game.

Did you know that Bang Dream Yumemita anime features several collaboration contents exclusive to the TV broadcast version?

Yumemita Anime features several collaboration contents exclusive to the TV broadcast version.

First up is a segment where the characters from yumemita present the preview for the next episode of the 100 girlfriends anime, as part of a collaboration project with 100 girlfriends.

Conversely, you can also see a segment where the characters from 100 girlfriends present the preview for the next episode of yumemita on the TV broadcast version of 100 girlfriends.

Next up is a commercial for Comic CMOA.

This is from way back, as they actually ran these during the very first BanG Dream! anime, as well as back in the days of MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica.

It uses footage from the series, but the audio is specifically tailored as a Comic CMOA commercial. (The plot of this commercial was: “Ritsu is happy to be reunited with Arare, but when Viola introduces Comic CMOA to Arare, Arare gets distracted by the many free manga available on the Comic CMOA app and website, and Ritsu and Arare end up with no time to spend together.”)

Finally, here’s the weather forecast presented by the characters from Yumemita.

Since I watched the version of the Yumemita TV anime that aired on the TOKYO MX network, the forecast shows the weather for various areas within Tokyo.

It’s the end of July, so it’s extremely hot, with high temperatures reaching 37°C in some areas.

Incorrect Japanese stickers found in Sri Lanka

日本共産党 means "Japanese Communist Party", and 暴力的な乗組員 means "Violent Crew Members".

Since the Japanese Communist Party does not reject violent revolution and has historically been involved in violent crimes, this combination feels like an unintentionally dark reference to Japanese history by the Sri Lankan owner who posted the sticker.

what temperature do you keep your house's AC set at during the summer?

Hello, I’m a Japanese Reddit user.

In Japan, one of the common warnings you see in guidebooks when traveling to the U.S. in the summer is: “In regions of the U.S. with intense summer heat (the West, Southwest, and South), the air conditioning is very strong, so it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket.”

I’ve traveled to the U.S. in the summer about twice myself, and I do recall that the air conditioning seemed quite strong.

So, I’m curious: what temperature do you currently have your air conditioner set to?

I currently have mine set to 23°C (73.4°F). By this country’s standards, that’s on the lower side.

In my country, it’s common to set it to 25–28°C (77–82.4°F).

EDIT: Thank you, everyone!
I never imagined so many people would respond!

I want to know how a certain scene from V Gundam is translated in the English version.

There was a scene where Uso Ewin said something like "If you want to play mother, please give birth to your own child and do it!" to Lupe Cineau. I want know how it was translated in official English subtitle.
