Posting this where it'll get some love. All my blog and Instagram posts about this record and band get nukes by the algorithm for mentioning any of the topics in the record lol. Another reason to get out of these websites and make your own/read books.
They should really repress this. It's wild and stupid that this is the rarest record I own. I know it was only ever put out as a benefit but hey, do another one lol.
This is the first album by Krautrock legends CAN, but with no overdubs or anything. The difference isn't huge because obviously they didn't do much to edit their early 2 tracked material, but it's fun to listen too and imagine being in the room and hearing what they heard as they jammed. It's usually released as Monster Movie Live but this east/west bootleg calls it Live In Burg Norvenich
I don't know where you can get a digital copy, if anyone has to share please let me know
This is a picture disc reissue, with a remaster by Scott coburn (animal collective, sun city girls)
Seattle avant-jazz with psychedelic and worldly influences. Recorded live, unedited and fully improvised, one long piece per side. Guitar, Sax, and 4 or 5 drummers.
The guitarist is a University of Washington jazz professor and this was a previously unnamed group that formed around a weekly improv jam at a long standing 18+ bat frequented by jazz/art students. Critics compared it to Albert Ayer. I'd say maybe James Brandon Lewis too. The guitar is something else though, and the drums are wild. This is their sole recorded work.
Modern Brazilian jazz/pop with an incredible group of players led by drummer/trombonist/producer Antonio Neves. He has had a couple records before and since but I'd say this was his big solo breakout. If you haven't heard much modern Brazilian music or trombone, check this out
Brazilian jazz/pop led by the incredible producer/drummer/trombonist Antonio Neves. Tons of fun, great players, fantastic singing and energy. Very funky and modern with big big beats. It's remained a personal favorite over the years
Two solo records by the NYC multi-instrumentalist, engineer and producer now best known for leading the sensational group Fivel Is Glauque
They consist of incredibly recorded 4-track jazz-pop songs with dozens and dozens of guest vocalists/soloists. It's structured almost like a radio broadcast, with narration introducing the players on each track. There are really wild ideas stuffed into these one minute lyrical songs. I've never heard records quite like these ones

The debut album by the OTC. One of the greatest psych pop bands of all time
I'm revisiting this 10/10 today after Elephant 6 Recording Co. announced their long anticipated third, final and somewhat posthumous album.
What a gift! Long live E6, long live Olivia Tremor Control ✨
Revisiting this today after again enjoying that new Tomo Katsurada x Johnny Nash album- they're quite similar in some ways. The main difference of course is about 30 years have passed, and also that Temple IV is one of the saddest records of all time.
Much longer dual review about the first two Roy Montgomery albums on my blog here but tl;dr this is an all time classic record in so many categories- ambient, psychedelic, 4 track recording, dead-wife-core. This one's really stood the test of time.
Acid Mothers Temple - In C (2002)
I'm revisiting this classic Acid Mothers album where Makoto & Co (with a mallet percussionist!) perform legendary minimalist composer Terry Riley's classic guided improvisation "In C" before delivering their own scorching psychedelic original "In E"
It was just announced that the next AMT record out on the awesome VHF Records will be another take on this concept. I'm very excited to hear the version that the current lineup- perhaps my favorite lineup- has created.
Sun Ra - God Is More Than Love Can Ever Be
Originally released straight to the merch table in like 79, they finally officially released this in 2018 and it sounds gorgeous. It's his only complete drums/bass/piano trio album.
BtS adjacent, nobody I know irl understood why I was so excited about this show. First time I've seen them both on stage together since Built to Spill at uh maybe Treefort fest 2017 or 2018. I love love love Caustic Resin and to have Jim sit in was such a treat. Amazing set, I felt very blessed.
The solo debut from Masaki Batoh of the classic Japanese psych/folk/ambient band Ghost. He still puts out great albums on the legendary Drag City Records. More people should cover CAN songs.
This is a great LP but if you can't get one, all tracks are on his collected works 95-96 which is streaming everywhere, Bandcamp etc.
Hi y'all. What's everyone's smoking on for cheap? I hear a lot around town about award winners and concentrates but I'm having a hard time finding opinions on tasty bulk. For context I historically smoke local growers like Falcanna, SubX, Sky High, Ravengrass, and Red Bird. I had tried some cheaper bulk brands in the past and really did not enjoy them.
Well I was out of state and I bought some amazing outdoor cannabis for $30 an ounce that made me want to try again to find better cheap trees here in Seattle (and the surrounding cities.) What's everyone's recommendations for brands that go for under $150, or even under $100 an ounce?
"At The Emerald Pool" out now of future days, his third album since KM ended following 2024s "Dream of the egg" and this years earlier collaboration with psych/jazz musical Misha Panfilov "Eternal Almost"
Any thoughts? I love it. So stoked. There's a great cover snuck in there too at the end. I'm really happy to finally get solo stuff from him and Go this past couple years and can't wait for a US tour.
The final Kirk album before his stroke. Super underrated. Lots of folks have been talking online about giant steps, it's a bit of a meme to see how and on what you can play it. Well this record has what might be my favorite version. Don't miss it
His solo debut, well over ten years into his career. They called him The Wizard for a reason. I have a lot of thoughts on this album but suffice to say, it's a great entry point into his discography
Fuzzed out rock from Hong Kong, no drummer required. Bonus points if you know the guitarist's current critically acclaimed band 👀
