Opinion on potential features for the Weeknd's next project
I personally hope it's either featureless with collaborative remixes saved for a deluxe like After Hours, or it features new talent (i.e. Chxrry who has become somewhat of a rising star and is signed under his label) instead of recycling the same frequent collaborators or lazy features from big names (COUGH Travis)
Now how did that get past security checks? 😭
Recording yourself on a MacBook is wild. Abel eventually noticed, laughed and pointed at them. Guess that was what they were hoping would happen.

In your opinion, which social media sites are the best and worst to be a fan of the Weeknd on and why?
This is something I've been thinking about since I see people on here complain a lot about the behaviour of xo fans on tiktok, twitter and Instagram. But when you go on those sites, they complain about how bitter it is to be a fan on Reddit. And I can't say they're wrong exactly, outside of this designated subreddit I have noticed a lot of hatred towards the Weeknd and downplaying of his success that isn't really as prominent on other sites. Plus we tend to be less parasocial on here and more accepting of criticism in a way that could get you jumped on tiktok for example. What do we think?
In your opinion what are some of the most questionable creative choices Abel has made regarding his musical career?

Is anyone else taken aback by the popularity of Lost In The Fire
Night 2 in Manchester the crowd was screaming the lyrics almost as loudly as they did to One Of The Girls. I feel like the song made hardly any noise at its release in 2019 except for controversy over the "fuck you straight" line. But it ends up on the setlist everywhere and seems to have become something of a fan favourite.
I just want to know how and when this happened, and how he managed to have a viral song with *those* lyrics in a post-COVID world. Thought he would skip over that part when performing but nope. I assume it's tiktok or Instagram related, since my brother who isn't a fan apparently recognised the song from online memes.

Night 2 Manchester crowd was amazing to see as a fan
I was in a seated section where everyone was packed like sardines, but there was so much energy we were leaping into each other so it was almost like a mini mosh pit. The Weeknd himself seemed to really notice that energy (I'm sure the great weather helped the overall mood as well). I was happy to see so many people singing along to the Hurry Up Tomorrow songs along with myself since I saw posts on here about people not knowing them at their shows. And the guy next to me who belted One Of The Girls on his knees next to his girl, you are iconic for that. Also, I expected hoards of people to leave with Carti, but no it looked like everyone stayed for the Weeknd, no empty rows in my peripheral vision.

If you would like a dictionary definition of a deodorant or a distinction between deodorant and antiperspirant, I am happy to provide. There will be no stinky mosh pits on my watch
With just five days left, what are our hopes (and realistic predictions) for the opening song in Europe?
US/Canada: The Abyss
Latin America: Baptized In Fear
Europe: ???
East Asia: ???
The promotional image for Ariana Grande's new single reminds me of The Hills
David Lynch inspired them both. Selena Gomez has a similar scene in one of her MVs too
PSA: New crowd control rules in an attempt to erase bot activity in the subreddit
Due to the absurd number of bots, crowd control has now been added to the gwiles community. This means that posts from accounts that are new or have zero/negative karma will automatically be filtered.
If you see a bot post that manages to slip through this crowd control, please don't hesitate to report it as we will then have to look into installing stricter automoderator regulations to sort out the problem.
If you are new to Reddit and a genuine fan account, please be aware that you will be unable to post into the community initially, though we will try and manually approve your posts if they seem legitimate.
Thanks for the cooperation and patience,

With the recent popularity of Love Me Harder, which song by the Weeknd do we think is next to have an online resurgence?
Honestly I wish a song from Hurry Up Tomorrow would get this kind of attention but I think it's too soon for that. I wonder if In The Night will get a revival given it's similar to Love Me Harder in being a catchy, upbeat pop tune contrasted with dire lyrics.
Occasionally, I'll encounter early 2010s media and realise just how out of pocket "jokes" about the Weeknd's freeform dreads got
It started with goofy jokes like "do you live in a pineapple under the sea or nah". Then you had blatant racism like this YouTube parody of Love Me Harder from 2014. It features a white man cosplaying black hair and multiple jokes about how dirty it is. Somehow this was considered comical.
Hell, subs like r/justfuckmyshitup are still making unfunny digs about his old hair to this day. And yesterday I saw multiple comments on a tiktok video talking about finding the Weeknd scary as kids because of his locs. That was actually baffling to me. Not his lyrics, not his scary music videos but his *hair*?
Personally, I've always considered the "pineapple" to be the Weeknd's best and most iconic hairstyle, and while it's completely fine for others to hold different opinions (his afro looks great too), it really is sad how much prejudice seeps into that conversation.
Are you comfortable playing your favorite Weeknd songs around your parents or nah
not my favorite song but if my desi parents heard or nah I would be barred from his concert fs
