CX-5 or Tiguan? (or any alternatives)
As the title says we are looking to upgrade our VW Polo to bigger, more practical family car.
I've been researching none stop for a couple of weeks and we have shortlisted it down to the VW Tiguan and the Mazda CX-5 as they are the two I keep getting drawn back to.
The Tiguan as we like the look of the older R-line and the newer 2025 so either would be okay, I like the interior and the screen even though a lot of people don't like them, I don't actually mind having a screen and I'm not car mad enough to demand buttons instead! and VW is my wife's soft spot (The Polo is technically hers).
The CX-5 we can get is the Homura, which is a lot less technical on the interior, more premium feel although a bit dated and overall doesn't look as nice (IMO) as the Tiguan, although externally looks more luxury but have heard it handles very nicely - We are going to test drive all options next week so can witness this first hand.
However, visuals aside I've heard quite a few costly problems with the Tiguan and have heard much better things about the Mazda in terms of reliability, so that being said, as this is a family car, is it unadvisable to go for the VW just based on it slightly preferring the looks and tech in it?
Are the 2023-2025 Tiguans more reliable or do they seem to be still a bit of a risk?
And lastly, based on what we are looking at, does anyone with knowledge have any other recommendations? Every manufacturer has some form of SUV in this class and within budget so happy to explore.
We're looking newish preowned (under 30,000 miles, hopefully under 20,000) and looking around the £25,000 mark down to a loan and deposit from the VW polo we have, we are in the UK (I have no idea if being in the UK changes reliability with some cars)
Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to help us!
