UK citizen, Belgian Nationality via Mother?

I'm a British citizen by birth, born 1971 currently resident in Cambodia. My mother was born in Ostend, Belgium before the war. She settled in Britain just after the war but never got a UK passport, she died Belgian in 2008. AI is telling me I used to Belgian and could reclaim it. I want to check what humans think.

Non resident capital gains, when does the clock start?

Just read the HMRC guidance on non-resident capital gains and it isn't wholly clear to me. I'll be selling UK shares.

I get it's not taxable if I don't return within five years... five years from the date of each disposal right? It's not: stay abroad five years and there's no gain on something you sold yesterday.

Also: when you leave, there's no 'half-year' or something. You're non-resident/the five year clock starts from the date you put on P85/SA, so you could fly out one day and cash out the next day?

Reading 2008 Optical Media

I'm UK expatriate in Asia. I made some dvd-rs of my paper diaries and photos in 2008. I don't have the originals. I do have usable thumbnails with me I'm working with now but I want to check if the dvds are readable. The discs are in the UK with my niece, have been in a suitcase in jewel cases. They were only written to once and never read. She sent me a picture and they look OK.

I found a few local businesses that advertise data recovery. I'd need the data to be sent to me, like via drive or something. I'm going to call these businesses and ask what they can do. Is there anything I should ask them, to choose who to use? Special reader or software or something? Is this generally expensive? It's in the Northampton area btw.

Cost for tax advice for one off conversation remote?

I'm in a complex situation, managing my own small portfolio. Grows OK but just found out I might have been doing SA wrong. I need a definitive, one off answer and some advice. It's residency related. I reached out and got three replies. 1850, or 700 or a free call with initial advice, charges if ongoing.

Maybe I'm insane, I was expecting a couple of hundred. Is the 'free call' likely a sales pitch or worth trying as I'm spiraling a bit.

I also had this thought, possibly also insane, that if an advisor starts repeatedly looking at your file it logs with HMRC and flags you for an audit.

What do you think?

WXBT wisdom tree UK Specific Question

This is UK equivalent to IBIT. Does anyone know if it's allowed in an ISA. I'm with IG. They blocked IB1T but an order for this wisdom tree one goes through (in the ISA). Customer service are ignoring me.
