My new (to me) watch.

A little back story for anyone that saw my first post. When I was younger, maybe 9-10 years old, I remember always going into Lee Micheal’s with my parents (because that’s were they purchased all my moms jewelry) and I remember looking at the tag watch case thinking about how I was going to get one when I was grown up. Well as I grew up all I wore was Apple Watches… until I had my son. I realized that even when I set my phone down I never really gave anything my full attention because all of my notifications were on my wrist. I set out to buy my first watch and ended up purchasing a seiko srpd55. The tag heuer price brand new just wasn’t something I could talk myself into purchasing. Then boom walking around an old antique sell I ran across this beauty. Turns out 2010 when this watch was sitting in Lee Micheal’s brand new was the same exact time I was standing there as a little 9 year old boy looking in that case. Full circle moment that makes this watch a little more than just a watch. Excited to pass it down to my little man one day. Thanks for the read. Hope you have a great Sunday.

The first two photos are after I did a deep clean on the watch. Also did a little polish cloth on the sides of the case and a very light brush on the bracelet. It’s going next week to get a full service. The 3rd and 4th photo are the condition I found it in.

Found a steal of a deal today. What do yall think??!

Recommendations on getting it somewhat cleaned up would be helpful not terribly worried about making it look brand new because this will be worn on my wrist for work and through raising my two little boys and everything else life throws at me.

All help/advice very very welcome! Thank you in advance.

Is it a good idea to buy an early 2000 model seamaster?

Is it dumb to assume it’s going to last for 50 more years?

I want ONE watch preferably 41mm and smaller to wear everyday. I would like to eventually be able to pass it down to my sons. i really enjoy the look of the seamaster. I will post the two years I am referring to and the current seiko I wear. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

*Here’s my long short story if you feel like reading it*

To keep a long story short, iv worn a watch pretty much my whole life. Started wearing g shocks in elementary school until I decided in high school I wanted to be cool and get an Apple Watch. Every time they made a new one there I was buying it. Until a year and a half ago, I welcomed my first born son into the world. It was after having him that I realize over a short period of time I didn’t want the Apple Watch anymore. At the hospital it was notification after notification. I would be rocking him and his arm would accidentally touch it now this bright ass screen has his attention at 3am. We took him to the beach when he turned one and all day work email, work call, work text, all right there on my wrist distracting me from life. As well as, the Apple Watch is nice but, iv never enjoyed wearing it, never felt like it looked good. Fast forward to the last day of our beach trip I take my wife and son out to lunch and afterwards we stopped in at a few little shops just for me to look at a few watches. I ended up with the seiko srpd55. I have worn it everyday and couldn’t be more happy about not having a dumb little computer on my wrist but instead a watch that tells me the time and looks relatively sharp doing it. But since then we just welcomed our second born into the world. I want to wear a watch that can handle my lifestyle daily between work (measurement tech), raising my boys, going on family vacations, yard work, eta. And after all that still be passed down for them to enjoy and remember. A watch they will cut teeth on and wear to their wedding. I really hope this makes sense. I enjoy the look of the early 2000s model sea masters as well as the 2010 ish. My only complaint of my seiko is that it’s very thick at 13.2mm. And the case I feel is a tad too big at 42.5mm.
