Curious tourist here!

Hello! I took a walk around a very interesting (and beautiful) area here in Trondheim, and couldn't help but notice this little gremlin/cat creature in multiple spots. What is it exactly? What does it symbolize? Sorry for the odd quality, the pictures are on my camera :D

Feathers sticking out

Hello! Yesterday I noticed Calliope has some flight feathers sticking out from her wing, two exactly. Is this normal? I tried to give them a very gentle tug as she hasn't been able to get them off by herself but they didn't budge.

Canary nesting behavior

Apologies for making so many posts, but this community is the only place I can turn to for advice as a first time bird owner. Also, I tend to worry about them constantly due to my anxiety disorder so just hearing second opinions keeps me from freaking out. I just want them to be happy and healthy.

Since this morning, I noticed that my female canary has started to nest in her seedbowl. She hasn't laid any eggs, and is still being kept seperate from my male. I'm just curious as to if this behavior is normal?

I purchased her a nesting bowl and some coconut fiber for building material online. Unfortunately it's going to take a while for them to arrive.

Should I allow her to nest in the food bowl or should I do something to prevent this? Is she going to lay infertile eggs, or is she just doing this for comfort?

Thank you very much in advance.

EDIT: This morning, I discovered she'd laid an egg.

Canary can't fly.

Hello! So, my female canary, Calliope, can't fly.

I've tried letting her free fly, but she only flies sort of like chickens do. In short bursts and mainly downwards.

What could be the reason for this? Can I help her in any way?

Female canary vocalizations, what do they mean?

Hello again! So, we're currently on day 4 with a second canary in the house! Calliope is very cute and very messy, and I love her dearly.

Anyway, since this morning, she's started making an odd noise I haven't heard before. It's almost a song? But not. It's pretty short and high-pitched, like a di-di-di-di sort of sound. Any idea what it could it mean? Is she calling for Apollo? Or is she distressed? Neither?

Thanks!

Advice needed about getting a second canary!

So, I've been looking for a female companion for my male since the beginning, as he used to have a partner in his old home but she passed away some time before I adopted him. And by sheer luck, someone replied to my ad looking for one and the female is just a five minute drive away. (Which is surprising since the canary scene isn't big in my country, and especially not this far up north)

Anyway, I live in a small studio apartment and so I don't have a seperate room to quarantine her in. The previous owner says that she is healthy, but I'm still a little worried. I know I should quarantine her and monitor her health before putting them in the same area in seperate cages but that's just not possible. I don't want to stuff her into the bathroom either, as there's no natural light there and there's obviously chemicals.

So, can I risk it? Also, when I finally introduce them to one another, what should I do during breeding season? When is that exactly? I do not want babies. (i do not have the space for all of them)

What should I look out for? How do I prepare for all of this? I'm still a newbie bird owner and I keep overthinking every little detail because of my anxiety lmao. I just don't want to mess up and cause any harm to either of them. I love my boy Apollo so very much. And I just want him to be happy and have the best possible life an broke 20 something like me can offer.

Need advice as a first time bird owner!

Hello! So, I just got myself a beautiful little canary boy. The previous owner was giving him up for work and travel reasons. I've always been an avid bird lover, and generally a very dutiful pet parent. I used to have rabbits when I was younger, but now live on my own and wished for some company.

The need for advice part comes here: he is absolutely terrified of me. He has a big cage, which the owner sold me with him, but there is only a singular perch and nothing else. I managed to find some bird food from the supermarket which the previous owner has been feeding him. All though, it's specifically for budgies so I was planning on buying him some canary specific food and mixing it in to let him get used to it. I gave him a bowl of water, some apple and a piece of broccoli for the time being.

He's not touching any of it however, as he's just sitting on his perch. It could also be the late hour, so I hope tomorrow he'll be more comfortable moving around. His cage is currently mostly covered to ease his mind and because it's currently night time.

I'm going to the pet store first thing tomorrow for some more perches, toys, food bowls and millet!

My question is, is there something I've forgotten? How long will it take until he's no longer frightened? How do I get him to feel safe and cared for?
