Nest Tour Using the Drone
I’m still a learner driver 😅 but it’s so much fun

I really love the art style of Kan Liu and wanted to recreate a portion of one of his paintings, using his technique. He uses @artof666k online, so please go and check out his extraordinary work. This study is from a much larger piece.
Brushes: painting - round brush for most of the rendering. Drawing - Oberon for the texture on the hats. Organic - Rainforest for the background foliage. He uses Photoshop, so I had to use my best guess for equivalent Procreate brushes.
The first couple of minutes of the timelapse is just me trying to get the perspective and proportions correct. I took my time with this. I watched a timelapse that he posted on YouTube to see how he constructs his work. He sketches in orange and black, leaving the orange to show through a bit on the final piece. It’s so distinctive and creates a glow.
I added colour by first using the selection tool and filling in the major shapes, roughly, not being too precise about it, before rendering. I have to say that I enjoyed every moment of doing this and learned so much.
I love this outfit that he wore in Detroit. The music embedded here is the guitar tabs for Long Face.
Thanks to u/sweepmoon for permission to use their photograph from the event as a reference. This was so fun to paint, the delicious colours, the light, the boots!
Another painting of a favourite shot from S2. I’m looking forward to all the beautiful new scenes in TVL!

She is a great drawing subject, as she always poses in an interesting way and wears wonderful costumes. This is painted using the round brush on 100% opacity. This was my first attempt at digital painting that wasn’t a tutorial. I made so many mistakes, like forgetting to start a new layer for the figure 😅. I gave up on it a couple of months ago, as it just wasn’t working, then went back to it this week. I’ve been practicing a lot in the mean time, so I was much more confident. Keep at it 🤜🤛
A painting of one of my favourite scenes in S2. This brief moment was such a promise of season 3. I want to see the tower again, I’m also dreading it. I have so many feelings, I just wanted to try and express them!
I really wanted to try this method, and this subject seemed like a good opportunity. I painted in greyscale, using the default round brush, then used curves to add colour, with some round brush to touch up. It was really interesting to try, but I love painting in colour, so I’m not sure that I will use it much. Painting the values was such a helpful exercise though.
From a reference photo taken at a recent Wet Leg gig, by someone in my gaming community. I loved the dynamic pose (such a challenge 😅) and the contrasting pink and green colours. Reference used with permission.
I’m new to digital painting and really enjoying it. I’ve done a few technical challenges now and feel more confident. I don’t seem to be able to remember which layer I’m painting on though lol. I love Procreate and it has got me out of a very long art slump. I feel excited about it again.
Brushes: The basic round brush, smudge, studio pen for the tattoos and soft brush for the lighting effects around the window.
