Kindle Scribe Without Frontlight experiences?

Hi,

I noticed that the Kindle Scribe without frontlight it is available on Amazon and I got a bit interested. I have the Remarkable Paper Pro, but since the screen is so dark-yellow, I'm looking for some kind of replacement (not sure if I will replace it or not though, just researching the possibilities).

I may be old-school in not wanting colors or frontlight. I'm particularly looking for something different than the Paper Pro (colors make the screen darker, and I do not like the idea of making the screen brighter because of that by adding a frontlight; I prefer a screen with good contrast without light).

What is is like to write on that device? To read? If anyone has had the possibility to compare it with a Remarkable device, then it would be extra interesting.

I'm also looking into Boox Note Max (I had a possibility to test a friend's device), but that one had zero palm rejection, which was almost funny to see. Otherwise that device seems to be a dream.

How to get palm rejection on Boox Note Max working?

Hi,

I just tested a Boox Note Max, as I was a bit interested in how it compared to e.g. a Remarkable Paper Pro.

I immediately noticed one thing, that almost had me laughing: as soon as I put my hand on a note on the Boox Note Max, and started writing, it directly closed my document! I tried again, and got exactly the same result. Is palm rejection really this bad on a Boox Note Max? Any software updates or tricks that make this very simple use case work? I mean they cannot have even have done the most simple QA-test on this if it is the case: try writing something on the device without it closing the document directly when you put your hand on it.

There are 1 000 settings on the device (typical of Android) and maybe it is possible to do something about it? Any hints?

I do not experience the same on a Remarkable Paper Pro: there it just works out of the box to put the pen on the surface and write.

Remarkable Paper Pro and Paper Pure side-side-by-side photos

Hi there!

A picture (or three) are worth a thousand words, right?

I recently got a Remarkable Paper Pure from Amazon at a discount so I thought I would make a comparison here with the Pro. I have had the Paper Pro since December 2024, and I use that device more or less daily. I also still have the RM2 and the RM1. Guess I'm simply a fan of the Remarkable devices. :)

A short review and comparison:

I wish that Remarkable AS had created a Pro device with the same panel as the Pure, and with a passive stylus (no battery) instead of the active one (with a battery). As you may see in the pictures above the Pure has a much whiter display than the Pro. The Pro has always been dark-yellow (even with frontlight at maximum). I know the market screamed for colors and frontlight, but honestly, the result was not excellent, and colors on e-ink were not ready in 2024. I think Remarkable always did what was best for the customers in their earlier iterations.

Anyways, I'll continue using the Paper Pro as my daily device. I might send the Pure back, I have not yet decided. I have gotten used to the larger screen, but unfortunately not with the yellow-dark-background... :)

Paper pure inaccuracy?

I really like my Remarkable Paper Pro with one big exception: the dark yellowness of the e-ink panel. All other things have been really perfect: the larger screen, the response of the pen, the feeling of writing on it.

I also own a Remarkable 2, and I always liked the whiteness of that screen much better than the Paper Pro, so when I saw the Paper Pure on Amazon with a discount I decided to try it.

However, I noticed one very big showstopper almost immediately: it appears that the pen is somewhat off the screen. My handwriting looks terrible. In some parts it compresses strokes, and in other parts it seems to work.

I will return this unit, since it appears defective. I compare it to the Paper Pro, and there is no such issue on that device. I just wonder, out of curiosity, if anyone else has experienced the same?

(As another note, more to Remarkable AS than anyone else: I really wish they had put the Paper Pure panel on the Paper Pro. No frontlight, no color, a passive stylus, only with a larger screen, maybe a bit better resolution (the Carta 1300 panel). They shouldn't have listened to the market. The market demanded color and frontlight, but the technology just wasn't there. Remarkable decided to tick two checkboxes in their marketing material (color + frontlight) instead of creating the best e-ink device available, like they did before with RM2 and RM1. End of complaint.)
