First time storytelling - any tips?

I have been judging storytellers. Now enough! It's my turn to be judged. And honestly I am very nervous!!

I'll be storytelling TB or Onion pies for the first time ever! And honestly I have no clue how to make the character bag. I have never done storytelling and want some tips. Would you be kind and give me some?

Hosting in person games in Pune

Hi all we are collaborating with a very experienced storyteller who will be travelling from Mumbai to Pune to host multiple rounds of BOTC. Let me know if you are interested!

Bad storytelling?

Recently I played a game online of TB and was thoroughly impressed how the evil team pulled off such a smooth victory. However after some thought I realised there was some storytelling fault.

There were absolutely no information characters. They put one empath (drunk) and one investigator who saw false pings because of a recluse. The storyteller matched the pings of drunk empath and investors ping. Other than that there were absolutely no info characters in the game. On top of that they added a poisoner in the game that could poison the Soldier or the Mayor.

I am not sure whether it was a bad storytelling or I am just whining.

To evil team's credit, they played some strategies that I haven't ever encountered!

Rank on BGG

I was browsing through BGG ranks of various games and I was surprised when I saw BOTC's rank. It is ranked at #66 overall, #51 in strategy and #1 in party. I see this game more as a strategy than a party game. I feel bad that it is rated far behind.

I feel BOTC atleast should be in top #10 if not #1. Any opinions or reasons?

Had a blast last Weekend

My friend u/Annoynoums_Bot and I hosted a game night on last Friday with fellow redditors and it went unexpectedly well!! We are board game enthusiasts and would like to host this weekend as well. Last weekend we played Catan and honestly the entire event was a mess.

All the grandmasters of barter trading were in the house who sailed through the Indian Ocean to trade. We all traded Ores, Wheat, Wood, Bricks and Sheep. Was it fun? Nahh I'd say it was rather brutal. Everyone had their own strategies and negotiations were a mess! There were low ball offers, disrespect and deceit.

We are intentionally keeping the event on a small scale. We are finding great quality people to join our event who want to socialize and bring some unique strategy to the board.

We have the last 4 sailor spots left to join our crew. Any takers?

PS: We charge a nominal fee to cover venue fees and game costs.

I might just quit

I just played the most bonkers game of Trouble Brewing with a bunch of newbies.

  1. Two people claimed recluse on day one, both were nominated but none of them were executed

  1. The second player who had claimed recluse on day one claimed the slayer on day 2 and took a shot and it actually worked and slayed the real Imp

  1. The new imp (old scarlet woman) killed the saint at night because she thought it would end the game.

  1. The original demon apparently didn't share his bluff tokens with his minions so they kept on hard claiming important characters during the day which were already in the game.

  1. The scarlet woman kept on claiming the slayer despite the slayer shot.

  1. The real FT kept on telling everyone that they got a "yes" but told that he didn't point at anyone "because he didn't want to share "info""

  1. So there was a vote tie between the scarlet woman and the FT because of the FT f up. Un/Luckily he picked the real imp in both the cases but didn't ever share the info.

  1. Someone asked the dead Imp about his bluff tokens and he revealed them (lol).

  1. Poisoner kept poisoning the drunk washer woman.

  1. Butler wouldn't cast a vote because he had to vote before his master.

  1. The Drunk washer woman wouldn't consider the possibility of being poisoned or drunk even after several attempts explanations. So he was adamant on his night information.

PS: All this happened in a single game!

Double claim saint but none of them actually are!!

I have been thinking about a strategy where the red team gets a saint's bluff token. I was thinking whether double claiming a saint by both red characters is a good strategy? If one of them is killed by a slayer shot or executed early on then the other one gains town's trust. And if a spy is living with that bluff then it might show blue to empath or other info characters.

I want to know if anyone has tried such a stunt? Has it worked? And as a blue team what should be your next steps?

For STs: Should a ST go on with a player's bluff with undertaker?

Script: TB

I played a game where the Imp bluffed to be a soldier. Unfortunately he was executed on the first/early days. Now if the poisoner poisoned the undertaker, should the story teller show a soldier token to the undertaker to make the game interesting? Or should they show any other random token?

A hypothetical scenario where the Demon is poisoned

I was thinking about various strategies where poisoning a demon would be a strategy for red team in the TB script. So I had some questions surrounding that.

If a Slayer shoots at poisoned demon or a Fortunteller gets a yes if pointed?

We don't hate the new Rakshak chowk flyover enough

  1. The flyover can barely fit 2 cars together, increasing the congestion.

  2. The traffic below the flyover has reduced so people drive fast.

  3. The primary purpose of the flyover was to enable people to cross the road and travel through the road that connects Aundh and Baner.

  4. But it's not easy to cross the road because, people drive fast from the bottom lane making it prone to accidents.

  5. To prevent people driving fast, they have added a barricade in the MIDDLE of the road, which is not visible at night, causing more accidents.

  6. The traffic on the road for which the fly over was built was already less because the same result was achieved by travelling via Aundh D P Road that connects Baner.

What has been achieved with this flyover?

A wide road where everyone could drive freely and least accidents occurred has been converted to a narrow flyover with a maximum possibility of accidents.

Phew!! Slow drivers are a nuisance

I don't know whether it is just the problem in my area or it is in general in Pune. I see a lot of slow car drivers and bike riders in the centre of the road. There is literally a traffic jam behind them and after a lot of honking they still refuse to give way to the traffic behind them.

I see this problem specially with luxury car drivers. It is very frustrating to drive on narrow roads when such vehicles are in front of you. I am usually the kind of person that doesn't like noise. But I can't help myself when I am stuck behind such people.

Beautiful windy nights with clear sky

Pune is finally showing its true nature. Single digit aqi, cooler nights, bright moonlight and gushes of cold breeze. A walk with your friends adds extra bliss.

This reminds me of Andy's quote from The Office: "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days, before you've actually left them."

Is Bluffing Saint the best strategy for red team?

Recently played a game where the IMP was Bluffing to be Saint. But we quickly caught him because he didn't vote for someone who was clearly Barren (Ravenkeeper's ability figured it out). But the game moved down because there was a scarlet woman in the game.

With a drunk character in the game how is it possible to figure out whether a red team member is bluffing to be a Saint? I think nominating and voting out someone who is claiming Saint is too risky. (I made that mistake in a previous game and we almost lost it).

One antidote that I can think of is that if there is a Slayer in the game he could take a shot at the saint. But the problem with that is it only works with the Demon. So in this case if a minion is posing to be a saint what could a possible solution be?
