Favourite rarepairs/rareships

i’m curious: what are your guys’ favourite rarepairs, also known as rareships?

in the case of daha 17, i guess a rarepair refers to ships that aren’t canon, on track to becoming canon, and/or popular (hence the term “rare”). my favourite is in my flair and it’s a guilty pleasure i am slightly ashamed of 😢😢

this is a judgement free question.. try not to start ship wars…

barış doesn’t deserve even half the shit he’s getting from the fandom

let me preface this by making it clear that i’m probably a little, tiny bit biassed. isolation and bullying is something that i’ve been dealing with for long, too, which probably count as factors that make it easier for me to sympathise with barış. in wake of this, i’d also like to encourage you, before you bring out your pitchforks, to try and see it from the point of view of an utterly lost, clueless, poor 16-year-old with two friends that don’t seem to like him and with a mum and grandma as the only consistent contacts in his life.

now, the title sums up most of what i have to say. half (if not more) of the hate directed towards barış is unnecessary and, sometimes, even cruel. i definitely acknowledge that him scrapbooking pictures of deniz is odd, and waiting around in indecision over his feelings is frustratingly cliché, but neither of those are really, really as horrible and heinous as a good handful of people are acting like it is. it definitely isn’t harassment.

(you know what is harassment? trying to coerce a girl who clearly doesn’t like you and who you know would do anything to help her friend into kissing you [on your girlfriend’s birthday, no less]—sound familiar?)

the entire series has been spent with him swallowing his own and others’ poison and never once externalising his grudge—and the one time that he lets his envy leak, (albeit unjustly) releasing all the pressure he’s been absorbing, he’s immediately vilified? seriously?! the best theory that people can come up with is that the docile everyman will kidnap his unrequited crush and/or assault the only guy that stands up for him?

barış is no saint, but never (that i remember) has he made his own emotions, his own problems and grudges, others’ problem beyond snapping at his mum a time or two.

it really leads me to suspect that maybe, juuust maybe, there is a double standard present here. wouldn’t it be so ironic if the series (badly) critiquing classism had a classist fandom…? 🧐

mum denies that i have anxiety despite being there for the diagnosis + that i need help in any capacity. it's pissing me off

i (16 "F") suffered somewhat of a mental break earlier this year. it's been building up for a long time and i reached my breaking point, embarrassingly, once i got my mock exam results back and they weren't what i had expected. this sent me down an anxious spiral about my opportunities, my future, and my life (as well as how awry it all could go if i couldn't study what i wanted). i had more than one panic attack and the matter ended in something really inconvenient. the week after, we visited a psychiatrist, and i was officially diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder.

now, my parents were all but supportive of what happened. i'll state it plainly.

they were concerned, of course, they're not bad parents, but they were, first of all, extremely pissed in their worry, and my ass was in massive hot water for *months*. but they were also there to witness me receive my diagnosis. the psychiatrist told my mum that common stressors included exam pressures and thinking about the future, which i suppose my mum took at face value.

thankfully, in recent times, i've gotten much better—i think that a lower seizure medication dose has helped. i've become a little more chipper and stopped having (as many) murky thoughts. but i feel my symptoms persist and are an obstacle in my day-to-day life (especially schoolwork). i tried bringing it up to my mum; how, maybe, psychological treatment could help, or just medication, but she straight-up denies that i have an axniety disorder at all. the diagnostic paper is in the drawer of her bedside table and she *still doesn't want to believe it*. she bets her ass on the idea that i "no longer need help" because i'm "okay now" and has a weird infatuation with preventative/alternative medicine, making her reject "non-essential" medication.

she's always been like this. she was like this before—when i was diagnosed with adhd + depression a few years ago and she refused to give me my prescribed medicine, supplying me with placebos instead—and it's disheartening to see that she's still like this now. advice is appreciated, even if this is largely a vent and i'm almost certain there's no way to convince her otherwise.

I know this might be a stupid question, but — "compatibility" of Se-base (SCS) and 3V (PY)

Even though I've been hanging around typology communities for a few months and think I have a working understanding of most systems, some things still trip me up. I'm aware that oftentimes correlations are arbitrary and sticking to these strictly does more harm than good (herd mentality, unwillingness to explore more uncommon options and find the ways in which they may be able to cooperate) and that certain systems weren't made with others in mind which is why I have typed certain characters Se-base + 3V before (ex. SEE EFVL), but as I have started to reread/dive a little deeper into Augusta's work and how she described the leading function in Theory of Intertype Relations, it made me think of how many people questioned Se-base + 3V. At the time I dismissed it strict correlations doing what they do, but upon closer reading, I find myself a little stumped.

>The [leading] function is the one the individual is most consciously aware of. The element that fulfils this function occupies a special place in the psyche. It is used creatively, and its usage is always accompanied by a noticeable sense of satisfaction. Everything related to the functioning of this element is controlled by the consciousness. If I took a specific action, arrived at a particular conclusion, or had a certain thought, it means that there was a good reason for it, that behaving differently in this situation would be wrong, unjustified, groundless. People are never shy about anything caused by their [leading], reproductive function. In this area the individual can still argue, agree with others, or make concessions, but they never feel uncomfortable, constrained or humiliated. The [leading] function is self-sufficient and creative, it does not depend on other people’s pressuring. It is always open to any new objective arguments, but never makes concessions solely based on others’ desires or perceptions. It tends to give directives and take a leadership role, and is not at all inclined to accept unconvincing or unclear instructions. It is similar to this expression: “I either teach, or learn myself”. At the same time, if others’ perception of something related to the individual’s [leading] function is different or incorrect, the individual may find it surprising or even funny, but it does not cause anger or outrage. Freedom of thought and action is recognized for everyone.

— Aushra Augusta, Theory of Intertype Relations

It was specifically "People are never shy about anything caused by their [leading] [...] function. In this area the individual can [...] make concessions, but they never feel uncomfortable, constrained, or humiliated."

If Se was limited mostly if not entirely to just their physicality, I would be more understanding, but Se, as described in The Meaning of Symbols Used in Socioncis, also includes "a person's will, their ability and readiness to use will on themself and others".

That's where I noticed a minor clash with the way Afansyev had described Third Will:

>"The 3rd Will [is afraid] of being humiliated."

>"the Third, more than any other function, is sensitive to flattery... no matter how monstrous flattery on the Third is, deep down inside a person absolutely not believing it, still shows full readiness to drink and drink this poison."

>"vulnerability and heightened sensitivity are the main hallmarks of the Third Function. Strikes on the Third are experienced extremely painfully, and scars from them remain practically for life."

It could genuinely just be that I'm misunderstanding what will means in either context in which case I would greatly appreciate gentle elaboration! I came to Reddit because I don't think there's any other platform on the internet where you can have these productive conversations without at least someone being up in your ear about some "it just is contradictory" or being pompous about you not understanding.

what are some singing myths you learned before that you’ve realised now are not really true (and maybe even stupid)?

when i had first started getting singing lessons, more than one of my teachers had advised me to swear off cold water and/or dairy because it would damage and/or strain my voice.

turns out that cold water doesn’t really do anything (goes down your esophagus, not across your larynx) and the effect of dairy on the voice varies from person to person. at most, the issue is increased mucus production which makes you want to clear your throat more.

What are some no-BS ways/exercises to actually develop your vibrato?

From age ten and onwards, I’ve been trained to sing, and honestly, I’ve hit a few milestones already. I really enjoy musical theatre and choir, but something that I still struggle with now, six years later, is my vibrato.

I’ve tried many—and by that I mean *many—*fixes. I’ve been through exercises with my vocal coaches and tried to mimic singers I’ve heard but nothing has stuck.

All the tutorial videos on YouTube and other platforms… I’ve burned through them. I’ve tried rapidly alternating pitches up and down, experimenting with more nasal sounds, and even tried to follow these very vague, theoretical tips, but it all ended in me developing an inconsistent, artificial “vibrato” (or a tremolo, moreso) that would only budge on certain pitches and sounds that I couldn’t sustain for long, either.

The only thing that has worked for me so far (that isn’t actually a technique) and helped me hear what I would sound like with vibrato is headstands. I’ve paid very close attention to how my muscles and throat behave when I would sing in a headstand and tried to mimic that, too, but to no avail. (Plus, I am advised to quit the headstanding because one of my ears bled the last time.)

So what I’m asking is: what are some no-bullshit exercises I can do? Even if they’re weird novelty exercises that I need execute carefully. I don’t care. I’m just sick of vague instructions that I can’t even be given the right tools to follow. I’m basically desperate—I know I shouldn’t be because vibrato comes naturally, but I really am desperate.
