Day 5 of 30 of practicing dovetails

The mahogany threw me a little first chiseling it. It was way softer than the maple and I gouged it a little . I did get the tails bigger than the pins this time. Also I’m out of maple and mahogany at this point. I can get poplar, red oak, maple, mahogany, possibly a few others from the closest box store but if it’s worth practicing on something else I can make the half hour drive for pretty much whatever I want from a local lumber place. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Also I appreciate all the tips. At some point in the next 30 days I’m probably going to make a box or something so it’s not just all cutoffs lol.

Just finished this loosely following the anarchist workbench. Still waiting on the vice hardware.

Moisture meter readings

Hi guys. So I recently picked up a bunch of southern yellow pine to start building the anarchist workbench. I’ve had it stacked and stickered in my climate controlled workshop for about a week now. I got a moisture reader yesterday and the wood is showing about 13-18% which I was led to believe was to high but I actually have a built in workbench that’s been in the same space for 5+ years and it’s showing the same 13-18%. Does this mean I’m basically at equilibrium and ready to go?

Bats spotted in basement

Hi guys I’ve seen a bat in my basement 3 separate times over the last two weeks since we’ve moved into this house. Everytime I’ve seen them or possibly the same one 3 times, it’s attempted to fly back up into the insulation at the corner of this basement. I found this on the outside. I can see insulation thru this hole. Was just going to install a one way bat thing over this home? Any reason I shouldn’t do this. I’ve never seen them anywhere else in the house. I’m in southwest Wisconsin.
