Season 8, Episode 21: Nooner or Later

Peggy tries to win a radio contest by calling Al at work and attempting to get him to do random, outrageous things, including coming home for a “nooner.”

Subplot: Kelly and Bud are trapped in a long line for tickets to see a band called Burned Beyond Recognition.

Notable guest stars: This episode is chock full of them!

-Chi McBride, known for many TV series including Boston Public and House M.D. as Al’s temp assistant at the shoe store, Dexter;

-Famous radio host Rick Dees as a…radio host;

-Pop singer Fergie (credited here as Stacy Ferguson) as Ann, a girl who cons Bud out of his place in line.

Fun fact: This is the first episode where they are obviously trying to hide Katey Sagal’s pregnancy; she would give birth during the hiatus between Season 8 and 9.

Funner fact: The famous mother-daughter duo that Al insults at the beginning of the episode will return in the last season for Al’s “trial” in the shoe store.

Random observation that I can’t help pointing out: A few episodes ago, Al claimed he could not handle seeing his wife topless, yet he apparently has a “cute little nickname” for Peg’s breasts when they’re making love. (Assuming it’s different from “the guys”).

Ok, that’s it, on to the discussion!

Season 8, Episode 19: Field of Screams

When Marcy initiates the building of an auto plant on the Polk High football field, Al chains himself to the goal posts in protest.

Subplot: Bud and Buck exhibit unusual side effects after Kelly sprays them with a new pesticide for a Verminator commercial.

Notable Guest Star: Julie Benz, who later went on to co-star in the television series Dexter.

Fun fact: Al references the attack on figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, instigated by Tonya Harding. Ah, the 90s!

Season 8, Episode 17: Valentine’s Day Massacre

Bud learns about a Valentine that Kelly forgot to give him 6 years ago…and the girl who gave it to him is now a pop star.

Subplot: Al battles the men of Chicago to buy a Valentines gift for Peg.

Notable Guest Star: Jane Lynch, widely known for her role as Sue Sylvester on Glee, guest stars as Greta.

Fun fact: Crystal gave Kelly the Valentine card for Bud six years ago…which was the year the show last featured a Valentine’s Day episode. (“Peggy Loves Al, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” in Season 2) and Bud had a date with April May June in that one.

We also hear the song “My Funny Valentine” in this episode, which Marcy sang in the Season 2 episode as well.

Season 8, Episode 15: Honey, I Blew Up Myself

Peggy gets Al a sexy boudoir photo of herself for his birthday, and he gets jealous when it is featured on a billboard and attracts the attention of various men.

Subplot: Kelly and Bud keep buying the same thing for Al’s birthday present.

Hill Harper returns as Al’s co-worker Aaron Mitchell.

Fun fact: According to the wiki, Al turns 45 in this episode. Ed O’Neill was almost 48 when it aired.

The episode that taught us that Al Bundy DOES NOT get jealous. 😉

Season 8, Episode 13: The Worst Noel

In this Christmas episode, Al and Peg argue over what to watch on TV, Kelly and Bud try to hide a present from their parents, and Marcy and Jefferson are DEFINITELY NOT having a Christmas party.

Fun fact - This episode takes place during real time and is set entirely within/around the Bundy house.

“The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole is featured at the end.

Too bad the jukebox didn’t work out. Al could have played Anna (Go To Him) to his heart’s content….

Season 8, Episode 12: A Little Off the Top

Al hurts his back while playing football with Aaron and his friends. A surgery goof up, partly caused by Peggy choosing the cheapest hospital, leads to him having a circumcision, instead of a circular incision. To make matters worse, Al's month-long recovery results in many issues, from being the butt of many jokes to even noticing his wife's figure and boobies. However, Al comes out on top after spending two weeks of self imposed isolation in the garage. He rocks Peg's world and shakes the house, proving he's still bad to the bone and learning that he can last longer in bed now.

Al starts an anti-feminist group called NO MA’AM (National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood) when women take over his bowling night and turn the nudie bar into a coffeehouse.

Features special guest star Jerry Springfield as host of “The Masculine Feminist.”

Fun facts galore: Beloved character Bob Rooney, played by E.E. Bell, makes his debut in this episode, and would make regular appearances until the final season. Officer Dan is also featured in this episode. Lisa Boyle, who plays Bubbles, would return later in the series as Kelly’s friend Fawn.

Fun continuity: Kelly still spells cat “Kat”, as was shown in the Season 5 episode, One Down, Two To Go.

We finally made it to the No Ma’am era, everyone! Buckle in and enjoy the ride!

On Halloween, Al wishes he was dead and is visited by The Grim Reaper - who looks awfully familiar. She decides to let him live - but only if his family says they need him before the stroke of midnight.

Subplot: Special guests The Village People ditch Marcy’s party so she convinces Peg, Kelly, Bud and Jefferson to impersonate them.

Fun fact: This is the first Halloween episode to be featured in the series.

Fun theory: The wig Katey Sagal wears in this episode would later be used for her Jasmine persona in Season 11. Anyone else think so? Or am I tripping?

Watch the original end credits here: https://youtu.be/TVddQHwlCxU?si=-CIqRRfXl40Ou5dB

(I love Al desperately inhaling the toxic fumes).

Here are Peggy’s hairstyles through all 11 seasons of the show. Some say her hair got bigger and crazier as the years went by. What does everyone think? Which season was her best hair? Her worst? Biggest??

Marcy conquers her fear of public speaking - by imagining herself having sex.

Subplot: Al discovers rap music. His twerking was ahead of its time!

Fun fact: “She Works Hard For the Money” by Donna Summer makes its second appearance on the show, after being featured on the Season 5 episode, And Baby Makes Money.

Kudos to all the actors in this one, for their impeccable facial expressions!

Noticed this yesterday. Tried to hit scroll arrow in bottom right hand corner and it’s partially blocked by the comment box. Extremely annoying.

The Bundys worry that Bud is going insane when he decides to build a portal in the basement. We are treated to various clips from past shows of Bud’s terrible luck with women.

Subplot: Al is tortured by an automated phone system. (Some things never change, even after 30 years).

Fun (or sad?) Fact: This is the last episode to feature the Grandmaster B persona.

u/loonylovesgood86 — 21 days ago

Peggy accompanies Al to a basketball game and gets the chance to participate in a free throw contest to win $10,000.

Features cameos from several former NBA players (Vlade Divac, Clyde Drexler, and Xavier McDaniel).

Fun fact: Peggy and Al think they see comic actor Joe Piscopo at the game. He was often made fun of on the show. There is an unconfirmed rumour that one of the MwC writers worked with him on SNL and hated him, hence all of the jokes. (Heard this on Reddit, so take with a grain of salt).

Welcome to Season 8, everyone!

In the Season 7 finale, Al’s old girlfriend Coco (played by the unforgettable Vanna White) offers to buy him from Peggy for half a million dollars.

Fun fact - You can see Ed O’Neill trying not to laugh after Coco removes a piece of pizza from his chin and eats it. (See pic 8).

Not so fun fact - Show co-creator and producer Ron Leavitt left the series after this episode.

The episode that proves Al could never be with anyone else “even though she had more to offer than you in every possible way, Peg.” ❤️

When Al’s Dodge is stolen, he tries to scam the insurance company by borrowing various cars to try them out.

Subplot: Kelly starts collecting “Ks” in order to save 50k for her own car. 🙃

Fun fact: Peggy mentions that Kelly was conceived in the Dodge. This is eventually revealed to be true in Season 11.

Funner fact: Officer Dan has appeared in several episodes this season, including this one. His character would soon start becoming more recurring, starting next season.

Features the classic Chuck Berry song, “No Particular Place To Go,” which happened to be recorded in Chicago.
