What’s causing these cracks?

I’m super new to press ons. I’ve been wearing these 6 days and there’s no lifting, but these cracks have formed.

The first one I noticed I didn’t picture because it was in a location that made sense - on my thumb on the side in line with the apex. And while I understand the sides are sensitive points for nails, how far down these are doesn’t make sense to me. They’re clear nails I got online for customization for cheap, so I figure that may be a part of it. I also filed down the edges (as in on the surface) to help with thickness. So that may be it too. Again there’s no lifting and while the first and biggest one absolutely cracked my nail under it too (I can see it, not feel it) none of these seem like it would be possible without causing me pain. Any insight is appreciated!

Why do people just repeat themselves over and over again with no change to how they speak when someone clearly cannot HEAR them.

I have a feeling this is a common topic of discussion.

I don’t think I can really label myself HOH because it’s really only when lots of other noise is happening, but what I’m about to describe has happened to me. Today in line at a store an older gentleman was buying something he had to purchase at a different desk. The cashier told him and he politely asked her to repeat herself several times, and he even clarified “I can’t hear you.” He was intently trying to listen. And she spoke SUPER softly and made NO EFFORT whatsoever to change anything about the way she spoke. He repeated her to ask for clarification and I think she just continued to repeat herself. When I repeat people I’m looking for a confirmation, not for them to continue to repeat the phrase I clearly cannot understand.

I just don’t understand why it’s so difficult to understand. This person can’t hear well, they need me to speak up. Enunciate. Clearly confirm or deny their understanding of what I’ve said.

Maybe it’s insensitive of me to assume everyone can understand and accommodate, but I just feel like I always see people just repeating themselves the same way when it’s so clear people need a bit more accommodation. If she had spoken up, she’d be speaking at a normal level - not yelling.

I’m really angry about this ngl. How hard has it been in your experience to get people to speak so you understand/hear? Sometimes I stop asking because I feel like such a burden.

What questions would you ask for a month long sit?

These are clients I’m very comfortable and familiar with, I sit for them frequently but longest sit has been 1.5-2 weeks I think.

What do you do when you cannot get your polish right?

It’s literally 1:46 am. I did a crappy mani last night with the intent of redoing today. I go to paint my nails today and I pick two colors to layer. Not super happy with them, but figure I’ll be okay. But then I smudge 2 nails before I get a chance to QDTC them. That frustrates me, so I take them off. Take a breather. Re do with a different color, and I’m still horribly unhappy with how they look, although they’re not smudged. I suspect going to bed will absolutely do that, though. Ik it’s not that important, but it will bother me. I could wake up early tomorrow, ignoring why that’s a bad idea for me personally, but it doesn’t change the fact that I can’t seem to pick a color out of my collection that I want to wear right now. I’m so tired I just wanna go to bed, but with bare nails?! I think I’m gonna soak them off, get all polish off and just base coat them and go to bed :/

Before - After. A loss I know this sub will understand

About a year ago I really got into polish and nail care thanks to this sub. I ended up growing my nails longer than I ever imagined (I couldn’t get my natural nails past my fingertips before) and I’ve had so much fun with it. I’ve loved becoming a “I broke a nail!” type of girl but also hate how devastating it is. I used to do extensions but hated how time consuming it was. Not to mention my denial about my acrylate allergy.

I think I just flew too close to the sun maybe, and several of my nails ended up breaking slowly but surely. 3 patches is my max to keep up on. Patches remind me of the work I put in to keep up with my extensions which makes it un-fun for me. Yesterday I broke my 5th nail, the middle finger and you might be able to see the break in the bare nail photo, on the right side. A tiny white horizontal line. I decided it was best to start over.

I’m so sad because I really love having long nails, and love being able to say they’re natural, too. The thing that softens the blow is that I had some bad blue staining from the beginning of my natural nail journey that I was able to cut off and can now wear all the sheer polishes I want without a base color, which I’ve been excitedly waiting for. Also now all my nails are mostly one length, (the mani before this I was patching two nails and had admitted defeat on the other two nails so I had nails much shorter than the others) it’s easier to do things and I don’t have to be as careful. So there are positives, but I’m going to miss my long nails and cannot wait until they grow back. Any extra tips for long nails and preventing breaks is appreciated.

Disclaimer - while I am genuinely sad about it, I’m aware this is very much a first world problem. I’m grateful to be able to be into polish as it is. This is not my worst problem by any means, but my long nails brought me so much joy, the loss of that is felt to some degree, even if minuscule compared to the actual problems in my life and the problems I see around me.

First mani is Clionadh Oxidize (2 or 3 coats, can’t really remember) and the middle two fingers are topped with ILNP Supernova
Second is 2 coats of LynBs Trouvaille, whose beauty genuinely has made this loss a little less sad lol

Both base coats are Nailtiques formula 2+ and topped with Seche Vite QDTC

Polish titles that make you pause

swatch is just 1 coat. I read this name and was stunned but found it pretty funny. I got it in a lot of old polishes haha.

Did this guy have his “diapause” triggered?

This gal(?) (who I assume is a carpenter ant) stayed here for almost 2 days and didn’t move a muscle. Today I found her making her way back outside. I really thought she was dead because the owners of this house had the exterior sprayed for ants before I found her (I’m a pet sitter) and before a google search, I didn’t know/didn’t think about whether or not this is something ants could do.

Google said the reason an ant would reanimate after being still for long periods would be temp, but thing that’s odd here is that while it was hot (80F+) when I arrived/just after they sprayed, and the day after it dropped to 49F, this is inside. It is by a sliding glass door, but the house was kept at 65F minimum, honestly I was keeping it in the 70s but the thermostat sets it back to their pre sets after a certain time. Is that really enough to have triggered it or is there a different reason? She didn’t seem sluggish at all once she woke up.

Also if you’re wondering why I didn’t touch her/move her it’s because I’m horribly afraid of bugs (and I don’t like it but it’s the way I am) and if a bug is a certain size I will just be praying to god it disappears and we don’t cross paths again. I cannot touch bugs that are larger than a grain of rice.

▲ 185 r/Dachshund

I have the option to sit here all day with her, or get things done.

My bf is watching a friends pup, dachshunds are my favorite breed and I think she’d sit on my lap all day if I let her. I really am debating doing nothing all day but cuddling with her! Gotta soak in this love while I have it. We only have her a couple of days! She is such a sweetie.

Is there a name for this part of this style? How to achieve?

I have hair that’s a similar length with bangs, lowkey my hair looks like the American girl doll Samantha Parkington. My hair will - if I’m lucky - naturally form big ring curls at the bottom similar to this photo but I’d like to encourage my hair to do this with some reliability. I really love the look of the huge, loose but also defined almost singular curl at the bottom where the top is more straight.

I looked up victory rolls because in my memory it’s the only style that features this but the only photo I could find was through an add on a vintage hairstyle website, with this photo. It’s almost exactly what I’m looking for but idk its name. Every other photo of victory rolls had too many waves/curls at the bottom.

I have foam rollers and I’m thinking of rolling large sections inward halfway up my hair. I’d rather not use heat but if a different type of roller is better please let me know. Any advice/info is appreciated.
