Against the Current Episode 42 - Thoughts

Before I begin my thoughts and rants, I just want to say that I cannot wait the 23 hours plus for the final five episodes to be released! What with all the spoilers and trailers, it seems that the drama is getting more and more exciting!

Now on to the episode, love the scene with the Lin Grandpa and the >!Shen painting, previous episodes has already foreshadowed that the Lin grandfather had special sentiments for the painting. There would be some offerings in front of the painting with every scene of it in the background. I also like the love the phrase said by the grandpa at the end, 我寄人間雪白頭. It was subtly heart wrenching!<

And of course, the >!death of the Lin Matriarch, heartwarming and tragic all at the same time. Liu Xueyi’s and her acting here was top-notched!<

Against The Current Episode 41 - Lin Third Sister

I just love this scene so much. Damn, third sister really nailed it here and left the marquis feeling all flabbergasted!

I just love how practical-minded she was and how she worked to protect the interests of her daughters

Cheng Lei’s Weibo post about his sprained ankle

Translation (ChatGPT):

Good evening! I know everyone has been worried, so I wanted to come on here and let you know that I’m okay. I accidentally twisted my ankle while walking on my own. I’ve already had it checked, and there’s nothing wrong with the bones or ligaments, so please don’t worry!
It was just a minor sprain, and it’s recovering pretty well too! The swelling should go down soon. Please don’t worry about me! [Milk win 🥛] Good night 💤

Hokkaido Arc Chapter 67 Chinese Scanlations (Partial)

30 page chapter but I was only able to screenshot 16 pages. Will update in the comments if I can screenshot the last few pages.

Brief summary:
Mostly flashback between Henya the bat (hope I got the name right?) and that flying villain. The former was born sickly and almost drowned in a well, but the appearance of the bat spurred his desire to fly and reach the skies.

In an awesome moment, henya cut off both of his legs to fly higher and this allowed him to defeat the villain. But at what cost? The other Juppongattana lamented that they might never see him again.

Full Review for 耀眼 Dazzling

Just finished this cozy light-hearted drama. Had watched it as a breather drama while watching 主角 (The Lead) and 家業 (The Heir). Was not expecting much from this drama and was quite surprised to like it so much. Of course, 李昀銳’s plot as seen in the video helped a lot.

Minor rant: I felt that the ML faces too many misfortunes (disappeared dad who left the family heavily in debt, immature mother, injury that left him unable to pursue his studies, fire at mum’s hairdressing shop and finally the death of his grandmother which resulted in him repeating another year). That and poor parents of the ML and FL…

Overall, I would rate this about a 6.5 to 7 out of 10.

PS: The last two episodes are for those looking for kisses and whatnot.

Full Review on 主角 (The Lead)

Just finish this masterpiece of a drama! Oh boy, what a bittersweet tribute to 秦腔! From its rise to its downfall and rise again!

Really loved the acting of the oldies in this drama. The Four Great 秦腔 masters, Auntie Hua, Uncle Sanyuan. And of course, Liu Haocun aced the role of Qin’e, the FL who dedicated her life to 秦腔 and her short-lived son.

There were many moments where I shed moving tears of sorrow. From the death of Master Hu, the collapse of the stage while Qin’e is performing, the deaths of Liu Hongbin and Liu Yi, the moment when Qin’e recovered from her PTSD and sang to the final episodes where Qin’e triumphantly returned to the stage and sang to all the important people of her life!

This is a drama not for the faint-hearted, as there are many sad moments and for those looking for a idolish happy ending for the leads, please look elsewhere…

Now, onwards to finishing 家業

Review of the first case of Season 4 of 開始推理吧 The Truth

The first case was quite good and hilarious and the new cast Ding Chengxin was hilarious, cowardly and smart in a good way. Glad to also see that they have reverted to Season 1’s rules where the NPCs can also be suspects. Really laughing out loud with the 狗血 family relationships for the first case.

Death in a rich family of glassmakers with complicated family relationships where long-perceived family relations are not what they seem. There is incest (briefly thought to be) and many more convoluted relations. And glad to see Ding Chengxin escaped as one of the murderers.

It’s been more than six months since Yu Menglong died at 37, yet he remains deeply remembered and missed by fans, including some who have dedicated a spot in Singapore to him.

The Chinese actor died on Sep 11, 2025, in a case authorities ruled accidental. However, questions and online speculation in the months that followed, including doubts over the findings and talk of a possible cover-up and controversies, shocked the public and kept the conversation going.

In March, a fan of Yu shared on social media that a group of supporters had come together to adopt a commemorative bench for him in Singapore. More than 40 fans pooled S$3,000 (US$2,355) to dedicate a bench at the Esplanade, saying it was not for show but to create “a place where [fans] can sit down and miss him".

At Esplanade's Theatres on the Bay, visitors can opt to “Mark a Bench”, a programme that allows them to dedicate a bench with a personalised plaque in honour of loved ones or to commemorate special occasions.

“Mark a Bench” donations are made to The Esplanade Co Ltd, a non-profit organisation and registered charity, with proceeds supporting free public performances and community arts programmes.

The plaque has since been installed, with a fan taking to Xiaohongshu to share photos of their visit to the bench – a bittersweet moment for those who continue to keep the late actor in their memory.

The fan wrote: “I found this commemorative bench at Marina Bay. Can you believe it! I actually found the memorial bench that fans dedicated to Menglong in Singapore!”

The message on the plaque read: “In loving memory of Alan Yu Menglong. With boundless kindness and tender light; An artist whose brilliance illuminates the world forever. Bench adopted by His Global Admirers.”

“Looking at this bench, it feels as if he is still here, silently accompanying everyone. This feeling… it’s really beyond words. If you ever come to Singapore, remember to visit this spot and help keep his light shining,” the fan added.

They also included a photo of the view from the bench, along with its exact location pinned on a map.

Many then took to the comments to remember Yu, with some appreciating the gesture and sharing that similar tributes have been made in other countries to honour him.

At the same time, it served as a sad reminder of his untimely passing, and of how deeply he must have been loved for supporters to want to remember him in such a thoughtful way.

"I was just a passerby and not even his fan. After hearing about what happened to him, it was the first time I ever felt heartache for a stranger online. I listen to his songs and it still feels like he’s here. I’ve been crying the whole time," penned a netizen.
