Sardine Sandwich - Nuri Extra Spicy Sardines in Olive Oil

Had to share my lunch today - it's tomato season here, and I had fresh bread, & this Nuri tin to try, so the stars really just aligned for me to make the most perfect sardine sandwich!

Just used the sardines, a bit of mayo, some diced castelvetrano olives & pickled garlic, and also diced up some of the peppers from the tin and added them in. Absolutely bangin' sandwich!

Dong Won Hot Pepper Tuna

Stopped into a local Asian market and grabbed a few tins to try. This Hot Pepper Tuna tin blew me away! The tuna is in a sweet & spicy gochujang sauce and has vegetables mixed in - mostly potatoes and carrots. Great flavor - has some kick, which I loved. Perfect to dump over rice or noodles for a quick meal. I will absolutely be stocking up on this one!

Trader Joe's Anchovies - nice little snack!

I was gifted a bag of snacking peppers from a friend's garden, and decided they would make the perfect snack with some cream cheese & anchovies. Yum 😋

Ati Manel Mussels in pickled sauce

I keep seeing videos online of mussels with chips or bread where the sauce is emulsified and poured over top. I did more of a dipping situation here, but I do understand the hype now! Very yum. Texture of the mussels was really nice too - soft but not mushy, and no gritty surprises lol. I would get these again for sure.

First tinned clam experience - YUM

I was at a local winery with a friend that offers conservas so this was our pick for our snack plate - Island Creek Littleneck Clams with confit garlic and chili in olive oil. OMG - this was an insane tin. Texture was great, flavor was super garlicky with a little chili punch - fantastic! We enjoyed dipping bread in the oil once the clams were gone. I picked up another tin to bring home and also grabbed some others that I've never tried before. Very fun! If anyone is in the Finger Lakes region in NY and want to have great wine and tinned fish with a beautiful lake view - check out Forge Cellars, in Hector, on Seneca Lake. Wonderful winery known for Dry Reislings, but also features other French wines from their sister winery.

Dumpling bake & tinned fish date night

For the first time ever, I had a tinned fish dinner date night laat night with my girlfriend. We each selected a tin to enjoy alongside a delicious dumpling bake. She picked the Fishwife Albacore Tuna in Spicy Olive Oil (we got 4 tins of this recently on sale for $5/ea locally - great price for this one), and I picked the La Narval Southern Mackerel in Olive Oil (one of the tins she surprised me with recently). The Mackerel was fantastic! It was firm & meaty and had a really mild flavor. Probably my favorite Mackerel tin to date - really want to try more from this brand now. Highly recommend not only this Mackerel but also tinned fish date night as a whole. My gf might become a tinned fish enthusiast yet! Looking forward to more of these 🥰

Smoked trout torched with hot honey - tinnedfishwithtyler made me do it & damn is it good

I saw this video drop today and I knew I needed to make it immediately! I had been wanting to try this tin of Porthos Smoked Trout, and this was a fun way to do it! I mixed some fresh chives and dill into my cream cheese, popped the tin open (beautiful skin on this trout btw), hit it with some hot honey, torched it, put it all together on a pumpernickel bagel and BOOM - best lunch ever. Highly recommend 👌

Partner surprised me with tinned fish... oh to be known ❤️

My partner has not been into tinned fish historically and has definitely been weirded out at times by my tinned fish hobby. I really enjoy tinned fish and am always finding new tins to try and making different meals for myself with them. Recently she let me add a tin to a charcuterie dinner we had and really enjoyed it, so now she's started to view my hobby a little differently. She surprised me with these tins today after she stopped at a new place for lunch along her travels for work and discovered they had a large variety of tinned fish available. I nearly cried... I am a sentimental person and it felt very touching to recieve this gift. I am sitting here feeling very loved and known and grateful - and also just excited to try these as I've never seen any of these tins locally before! Any favorites for anyone here? Very curious about the Nuri Paté!

Wildfish Smoked Black Cod

Really enjoyed this one on top of a chilled quinoa salad. Lovely mild smoky flavor and soft, delicate flaky texture. Wildfish really doesnt miss. Glad to've grabbed a tin to try!

First try of the Cabo de Peñas Sardines in Spiced Sauce

Wow - I really loved these!

The sauce was so flavorful & you do get some veggies & pickles in there, which is fun. The sardines were decently sized (4 in the tin), meaty, on the soft side (but not mushy), and soaked up the flavor of the sauce really well. I ate them with some dolmas and added some hot sauce - it was a nice little lunch! Would definitely grab these again - they'd be good over rice or pasta too. Yum.

Everyone brought a tin to the gathering - a fun spread!

Ati Manel Smoked Sardine Pate - Smoky, meaty, texture was pretty smooth. This was a really nice tin overall. I'm pretty new to pates and this was very approachable. We really liked scooping this onto seed crackers with a little hot sauce!

Ekone Lemon Pepper Smoked Oysters - these were delicious. Nice and Smoky - texture was great. Awesome with a dash of hot sauce too. Absolutely need to get these again - 10/10

Jose Gormet Smoked Trout with Dill & Fennel - only tin here that I've had before and it's a favorite! Flavor is lightly smoky, a bit of the dill/fennel does come through. Oil is really high quality. Texture is absolutely elite.

The Fantastic World of the Portuguese Sardine Codfish in Olive Oil - had a pretty firm texture and mild, buttery taste. The texture was a little too firm/rubbery for my liking, but flavor was nice and I didn't mind this one overall.

We had a really fun time trying everything together. Highly suggest having a tinned fish party with friends! You never know what you might get to try lol

First tinned Cod experience - Wildfish Peperonata Pacific Cod

Really enjoyed this tin! Fish had a firm texture, (but wasn't hard to flake apart with a fork to put on some crackers) and was pretty mild - picked up the flavors of the roasted red peppers/onion/garlic really well. This would be a good tin to camp/travel with for a quick snack since it's flavorful all on it's own. I would definitely get this one again! Glad I picked this one up to try.

Partner has been skeptical of my tinned fish hobby, but finally let me add a tin to our "girl dinner" last night to try together 😁

The official request was for "a tin with some flavor" so I went with the Fishwife Smoked Trout w/ Red Chimichurri. It ended up being really good with the dolmas! Her ranking was 5/10 - I was just happy she tried something other than plain tuna made into a tuna salad for a sandwich, which is all she's really had before, tinned fish-wise. She said shes be open to trying more tins now - a win in my book!

I'd give this one a 7ish/10 personally - flavor is unique and works well alone or mixed into pasta/rice, and if you catch a sale, the price isn't bad either. I'm not a fishwife superfan, but I do enjoy some of their tins when I can find them on sale - especially this one and the chili crisp salmon. 😋

Still didnt get a lox bagel, but I came close with this smoked salmon toast

I just needed a reason to open up another tin of the Wildfish Cannery Smoked White King.

Fresh chive cream cheese on toasted sourdough, topped with the salmon, chili crisp, hot honey, and chili onion crunch seasoning. YUM.

One of my all time favorite tins. Texture, smoke level, salt level, and flavor are all 10/10.

Originally wanted a lox bagel.... made this killer sardine sandwich instead

...and I'd do it again

Ar de Arte Small Sardines,

Cream cheese,

1/2 Shallot,

Fresh chives, dill & cilantro,

Salt, pep, chili flakes,

Drizzled w/ hot honey w/ chili onion crunch seasoning, on toasted sourdough bread.

Delicious 😋

Bonus - 1st sardine I pulled out to try had roe in it! First time that's ever happened for me! These little sardines were really tasty - pretty firm and mild. Would grab these again for sure.

Wildfish - Smoked White King

Wildfish Smoked White King Salmon - absolutely gorgeous tin.

The texture is softer than their coho, definitely fattier & more moist. Really lovely. Nice level of smoke & a little bit of sweetness and black pepper comes through as well.

I added it to a bowl of spicy soy momofuku ramen and it was delicious. So glad I grabbed 3 tins of this because I already want more lol.

Acor Tuna with Peppers in Vinaigrette - a very tasty tin

I havent tried Acor before, but this tin was a lovely intro to the brand. It was jam-packed (and I do mean jam-packed, it was so full it was literally hard to get the fish out of the tin) full of tuna, along with sweet red and green bell peppers, in a tangy, very tasty, vinaigrette (& olive oil).

Worth nothing that this one is skipjack tuna. I usually gravitate towards albacore or yellowfin, so I don't end up trying as many skipjack tins. Glad I didn't skip this one though - the flavor on this particular skipjack was mild, so it picked up the vinaigrette & pepper flavors well. The texture was much more firm than I expected as well, more like albacore usually is.

This one would be a great choice to eat straight from the tin, since it's got a lot of flavor with the peppers & vinaigrette. Will keep it in mind for travelling. I ate it on some local toasted sourdough bread this time, and it was delicious. Dipped the bread in the leftover sauce/oil as well. So tasty!

Glad I tried this tin! On point with the price point (paid $8.50 from Lata) imo. I'll have to keep an eye out for other Acor tins because now I'm interested to see what else they have available.

Why have I been sleeping on this tin?! TJ's Smoked Trout

I finally grabbed one of these Smoked Trout tins from Trader Joe's to try and it's so good! I'm mad I slept on these for so long!

The fish is really nice looking, has a pleasantly firm texture, and is decently smokey, but not in an overpowering way. Overall a super solid tin. I could see this going well with so many different things. I put it over some cucumber bean salad & quinoa with a little hot sauce and it was such a good, easy lunch.

The price is really approachable too, under $5/tin. Will definitely be adding this to my monthly TJ's list!

Samare 'Deens & Eggs on toast

First time trying Samare brand. The texture of these sardines was really pleasant! They were pretty firm and really mild - spines were soft and not noticeable. I did not pick up any spice at all, even though they say they're in spicy olive oil, which is kind of a bummer, but I did enjoy the flavor nonetheless. Nice small size - about 14 little deens in the tin.

Had some hard boiled eggs, so I threw the deens on some sourdough toast with some olives, pickled garlic & hot sauce. Nice simple lunch!

I feel like none of the deens in "spicy" oil are ever really that spicy. I really like spicy food, so its possible that my 'spicy scale' is kind of broken, but do any other spicy food lovers have any suggestions on tins that are actually quite spicy? TIA

ABC+ Trout in Curry Sauce - WOW

Absolutely blown away by this tin.

This my first ABC+ experience & also definitely the fanciest/most expensive tin I've had yet ($22 from Lata), but it was highly recommended so I wanted to try it. FULLY exceeded my expectations.

The sauce? Stunning. Creamy. Buttery. Tiniest warming sensation (not spicy - so if you dont handle spice well, don't be afraid).

The fish? Beautiful. Lovely piece of Trout. Perfect texture. Firm but moist.

What I thought would be a good quick lunch idea turned into an absolute experience. 12/10 - highly recommend. Wow.
