[Internships and Jobs] Narrowing the interpretation of CPT means reduced chances of full-time jobs (and/or) no-jobs for international students

* No more CPT means, no internships during summer in a 2-year MS program.

* No CPT means ~0% ROI.

* Internships used to help for OPT.

* Nobody is owed jobs/internships. But if the labor markets are not free for international competition good luck even trying to compete. You never had an opportunity to begin with to show your potential. Unis wanted your money for an inflated $ education. Immigration wanted you to return immediately. Education was a side-effect.

* Pre-completion OPT deducts days from OPT. It is a band-aid for lack of CPT. Premium processing is the only option, waiting for EAD will ruin your opportunity at an internship. Pay for pp. Include that in your budget, it is not optional. Remember your intern days are reduced from OPT days. You did a 3/6-month summer internship, then you get 9/6 months of OPT after graduation, NOT 12 months. Good luck convincing any employer/lab for a job. A hiring manager explicitly confirmed that ramp-up time is 6-9 months and will not hire OPT despite having the ability to extend it to STEM OPT if there are others with h1b/citizens in the line for the same position.

* Internships used to be a way for you to prove your value proposition. The intent behind "reinterpreting/narrowing scope" of CPT is preventing your ability to prove value to a potential employer.

* There is a stimulus among recruiters to ask for US experience. Your back home experience magically evaporates out of the blue. It becomes invisible. CPT used to bridge this expectation using an internship. It is no longer happening. You have 5+ years at a FAANG back home it becomes invisible suddenly. Comments are open as to why this happens?

* Take admits into unis that have mandatory co-op/cpt as graduation requirement and not optional. This should be your filter criteria if job is the exit goal and you have taken loan.

* Stay back home or look to a different country if you cannot accept these risks. Do not invest your family wealth in this ponzy scheme of ~0 ROI.

* Will this get better? NO. Unless unis sue and courts revert it, go with what is there.

* Unis should starve further and citizen tuition should rise as a result.

* ASSUME 0 ROI and book uni accordingly. If you get an internship / job it is luck as it is no longer a free labor market. You CANNOT compete your way into an internship/job with market not being free. Plan your loan and funding with this in mind. You as an intl student had only one weapon the ability to compete 24/7. It is no longer an effective strategy. Creating opportunities via entrepreneurship is the only option followed by O1.

* Get education and return is the goal. Anything else is illegal as per orange admin.

* The value proposition for the degree was your ability to make use of it through your willingness to compete. That is no longer the case. The provision for competing no longer exists due to reinterpretation. They have reduced the duration for which you can compete.

[Visa and Immigration] Do NOT go to US for MSCS if you need a loan.

I believe a one-year OPT has lost its meaning entirely : r/h1b_layoffs

* If you cannot fund 70-90% of the tuition without a loan do not go there.

* CPT, OPT, STEM OPT are a honey pot scam.

* Proposal for $100K for OPT. Most likely will destroy post-graduation ROI even if courts remove it.

* Unis want your money. Immigration wants you to return immediately. Education is a side effect.

* Assume 0 ROI post-graduation and plan finances & life with this in mind.

* Assume you will pay your loans if any, in local currency for the inflated $ education.

* T5, T10, T20, T50 is irrelevant. Your degree paper is not your ROI. Post graduation immigration environment is.

* Visa reform is a bi-partisan issue. Blue may not be any different from orange/red admin. Do not plan based on blue/orange/red admin. Look at the trajectory of reforms and policies: xenophobia, gatekeeping & ladder pulling.

* American jobs are for American. Jobs are NOT for the competent irrespective of American or intl.

* Your ROI is determined by trajectory of sponsorship policies not by the education you gained. Thus T5, T10, T20, T50 is irrelevant if you cannot make do without 0 ROI.

* You are paying 75-120K$ for the chance at a honeypot. Filthy rich people can ignore this.

* Do not negotiate using "exponential returns requires exponential risk". There is a difference between an environment that allows you to make back the invested amount, make more than it, return with 0 ROI.

* Intl students are not $ cash cows for unis irrespective of their tier. Let Americans pay the full fees and unis figure out other ways to get funding for their research. Stop being their subsidy.

How to get project associate position in shakti lab ?

I have around 6+ years of experience in system software across MNC.

Why? / Motives:

* Use the work experience in the lab for converting it into master's by research, if possible.

* Move into computer architecture and vlsi roles, compiler engineering, programming lang/runtime design & implementation. I do NOT like electrical things. I think logic and stop there.

* Use it for applying to masters/phd programs abroad. Publish/patent/document-novel-solution to show proof of research caliber.

* Get access to a network in research.

* Use it as a platform for upskilling into research/r&d/scientist roles in MNC / research labs. I am practical engineer not a theoretical person. I learn by experiments and validation.

* Nothing is free. Taking a pay-cut to upskill for future ROI.

* I need a practical platform to upskill into the target roles without corporate politics. Under the right environment and mentorship, I will thrive. I need an opportunity to earn-trust, upskill, deliver and transform my potential.

* I like to divide and conquer abstractions in computing systems. Not able to find structured opportunities & the right environment to do this without losing myself to complexity and ambiguity.

* I like playing around with distributed system concepts and primitives as an aside to find out ||les between single node compute design and multi-node design, i.e elevating the abstraction and morphing it into a higher dimension of existence and vice versa, i.e taking the abstraction at a higher dimension of existence and morphing it into a lower dimension of single node existence.

* I am scaffolding builder. If I cannot understand a concept, I build the support structure to make it digestible.

Why not GATE ?

* Because I am NOT a theoretical person. I progress by experiments and validation.

* An old soul who learns by doing.

* I do NOT thrive under time bound competition. I thrive under unique problem solving. Sorry, I am aware of my strengths and weakness. Avoiding competition is not entitlement nor the goal but re-purposing potential to what I need to progress myself and technology.

What novel things have I done till now ?

* Call graph instrumentation of recursive functions using python decorators to see the tabulated approach of bottom-up solution for recursive functions used in dynamic programming. This allowed me to gather insights on how modeling problems recursively allows optimal solutions.
Video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Xpp9_Tvnro_k84yQ5bHs0u3-zP6QEUWd/view?usp=drive_link

* Another interesting project of mine is to create a time travelling debugger:
It captures program state and renders an html file for each "progress"(line step) of the program. This allows one to slow down and review the state of classical algorithms that are difficult to understand initially when introduced: dijikstra, SSSP, etc.

The above are some of scaffolding engineering to gather deeper insights into computing systems. If you can intentionally slow down an algorithm the root intent is revealed.

If you are a professor/ra reading this, would you be willing to take this as an opportunity to transform someone who is willing to put in the effort to transform themselves ?

DM me for the code base details.
