I reached out to some folks here to submit samples of their efforts for a small "Baseball Scoring for Typewriters" exhibit at the International Print Museum's "QWERTY Typewriter Festival" held on June 27, 2026 in Los Angeles (Carson, CA).
Being a typewriter event, I doubt anyone expected to see baseball score sheets. There were puzzled looks, lots of questions, chief among them "Why?" A good portion of my time was spent answering questions about scorekeeping. I directed many people to this great community and perhaps started them on their own journey.
The show stopper was easily the 18-inning by 6-foot 2025 World Series Game 3 ribbon, but many were intrigued with the overall concept of scoring the game.
Thanks to the following Reddit uses for participating and sending in samples:
My wife isn't a total seamhead like me, but she enjoys going to the game and has kept score only once before. She wanted to try again and I recommended to her, as I do to anyone, to make the card her own. Well, she created a scoring system on the fly ... no real logic, just ... well ...
I call it the Hamburger Scoring System. For hits, she drew little hamburgers with the intent of using one patty for a single, two patties for a double, etc. (consistency clearly wasn't a priority). The 'Ketchup' / 'Catsup' method was used for strikeouts — "Hunts" for called strikeouts, "Heinz" for swinging. Other little things: Thor's Hammer for Hit By Pitch, a small house or a large star for a Home Run, a shoe for a Walk. Eventually, outs were simply recorded as "OUT!"
So, to reiterate, make it your own. Have fun!
