i’m Canadian and got a replacement approved ! here’s my experience

as many of us Canadians and international countries know already, Hydroflask only ships within the US (i believe) and so getting a warranty seems a little more tricky.

when i was putting in my warranty form, i didn’t find a lot of information about the process. i only came across maybe one negative experience with putting in a warranty form from Canada.

i sent in a warranty form and it went well and they would get back to me almost immediately. the longest they took was a little over 24 hours. it took around a week or so for the warranty to be approved a as many have said, they had to send in pictures in order to prove it’s authenticity and that the Hydroflask was impaired for whatever reason i had claimed. in my case, i sent in photos twice, then they asked me to do a heat test and then send a video of me writing on the bottle in permanent marker. it was a lot to ask of, but for a warranty i guess it made sense.

the only downside to the warranty is that not all sizes and colours are available in the Canadian Hydroflask warehouse. for example, mine was a 64oz and not only was the colour not available, but the size. therefore they offered to send me two 32oz, which i kindly declined and asked me to notify when they become available. the other option was to ship it to an address in the US, which i don’t have.

hopefully this helps other. let me know if you have any questions !

I DID IT

i posted a few weeks ago and finally took the plunge. literally couldn’t be happier ! i decided on the Kobo Clara BW and no regrets. it’s actually a great size compared to what i thought initially.

consider me part of the Kobo club !

the north face recon has no ventilation for the back. anyone have any suggestions ?

i've had the north face recon backpack for about a month now and every time i wore it, the cushion at the shoulderblades would get extremely sweaty. i thought it was due to the hot weather and then found that i was still sweating even in 18 degrees celcius.

firstly, i want to warn everyone of how poor the ventilation is. even after a lot of research on this bag, i had not come across ayone mentioning this sweat problem.

secondly, i was wondering if there was any sort of way i could "fix" this. i've done some digging and i saw people recommending mesh padding. i saw some on Amazon, but those seem chunky. i saw another Redditor recommend the Air Mesh by LUNA PROJECT, which i like because it allows breathability, but also allows you to use the padding on your backpack, which is ultimately why i bought this bag to begin with.

i was hoping to find others with the same backpack or same issue with their bag. unforutnately, the tags have been removed and the purchase is past their return date. i wanted to know if it was worth investing in a mesh covering or if it would just be worth it to get another bag.

for the record, the bag is great. it definitely takes some getting used to since it's such a constructed bag. i just wish that the ventilation wasn't such a problem. :-(

Edit : added more info

anyone else holding off on buying a Kobo in case of a new release of a new b&w (possibly the Kobo Libra 3) ?

i recently decided to hop on the Kobo train ! because i’m so new, i didn’t realize that the one i wanted (Kobo Libra 2) has been discontinued. i also read a lot of reviews regarding the downsides of the Colour being not as sharp and efficient.

after reading some people talk about a possible release in the near future since Kobo hasn’t released anything new in the past year or two, i’ve decided to hold off. i’m also this close to just ordering the Colour out of peer impulsive, but NO i must wait. anyone else in the same boat ?

Edit : just want to clarify that i’m willing to wait bc this will be my first ever e-reader purchase. for now, i’m sticking physicals… 😮‍💨

Edit : thank you to everyone who responded ! i didn’t expect such an overwhelming amount of feedback. this also is a reminder as to why i never post online, because there were also quite a bit of hostile comments for literally no reason lol anyways verdict is that i’m gonna get the Colour ! !! thanks everyone ! merci à tous !

those with a car, how do you afford it ?

apologies if this isn't exactly relevant to SFU, but moreso having a car as a university student in Canada.

i'm thinking of getting a car in order to commute to a practicum which would otherwise take 1.5 hours if i took transit for one-way and unpaid too. i live at home, get my groceries paid by my parents (thank you mom and dad), work two part-time jobs, and i am still able to fully enjoy my life due to cautious spending. i'm just super curious as to how students are able to afford having a car while being a student. i know a few friends who (frequently) borrow their parent's cars, which the insurance and gas is also covered. i have others that actually fund their own cars.

to be honest, i might just suck it up and buy a car once i am more established. but with the unpaid practicum AND 1.5 hours, i feel if there was anything i could to make the experience bareable it would be adjusting my commute.

anything helps !

what's a typical day like for a French Immersion Teacher in high school ?

hello !

just curious to know about what a typica school day in a French Immersion high school classroom looks like. from what i have gathered, you are expected to teach Science, Socials Studies and Science in French.

another question i have : i am personally strong in Science and Math so a refresher and then some practice teaching it in French should be no big deal. however, my Social Studies knowledge is quite rusty. i think during my teacher program, we will go over those things, but i'd just like to know before i get into my practicum. if not, then how should i go about refreshing my memory in order to teach Social Studies in French ?

anything else would also be helpful !

Edit : i’m from BC.

for PDP students, when do we do course selection ?

i just received an email for my enrolment date, but i don’t know what courses i’m supposed to take. my friend who is currently in PDP says that an advisor will contact me in August and that i shouldn’t stress. i’m just confused because why would i receive a enrolment date in July then.

any PDP students that can answer this please ? thank you !

looking for mental health support as an SFU alumni

something that i have pushing aside for many years has finally caught up to me and i’m looking to seek out for support.

when i was still attending SFU, i would use the SSP service almost every month, like the one-time calls and the time-limited services. now that i am an alumni, i was curious to know what resources other SFU alumni’s are using to get the support they need. i assume that the SSP doesn’t apply to graduates.

anything helps <3

Edit : If anyone knows of long-term free services, let me know !
