GoRuck GR1 v Aer CPP2 v Peak Design Everyday Backpack or…?

Friends,
Forgive me if this has basically been asked, by myself or otherwise.

My situation is a bit weird/unique. I am a physician and work both inpatient and outpatient for both adults and kids. Meaning, on any given week I could be working in the children’s hospital, the adult hospital, in clinic, or at home doing telehealth. I have a work Dell that is massive. I have a personal MacBook Air that’s very difficult to use at work (they openly detest Apple products — too secure, hysterically). I’ve also started writing a lot down because it’s so hard to juggle all the things, especially tough work along with parenting (now 3) children.

I used the Troubadour Apex for a while. Fantastic organization and aesthetic. Once I got the big laptop, the bag got too heavy to use all day around the hospital and clinic.

The GR1 was a dad bag at Disney a year ago, the envy of everyone at the park. BUT, the look is a little rough for a physician. The lack of organization built in leaves a lot to be desired.

The Aer CPP2 is really nice, but seems overpriced and has a weird structure to it. Though I’ve only used it for a few days.

I keep bouncing back to Peak Design because I love the look and functionality. Said, it’s definitely a camera bag first and a big challenging for EDC of notebooks and chargers.

But, I don’t know. It’s a first world, contrived problem. Still, I’d love any advice/guidance/input in general.

Many thanks!

Best vacuum bags for storage and travel?

I don't like staying in the same place ever, but that comes with some issues, and I’m trying to find a better way to pack clothes without taking up most of my suitcase. I’ve used travel vacuum bags before, but in average they stop being useful after a few uses.

I know I'm probably a rough user, but has anyone found vacuum seal travel bags that actually hold up with regular use? I don’t mind paying a little more if they're good.

Oh and they could also be the best travel vacuum bags that double as storage at home. Would be nice to use the same bags for winter clothes instead of buying separate ones.

So TL;DR: I'm looking for the best vacuum packaging option that works for both. A nice all rounder. What are you guys using?

Help Identifying Specific Tanker Model in Video

I want to get a second hand Tanker bag like in the video, but I’m not sure which one it is. The ones I’ve looked at don’t seem to have the handle or side pocket. Is this just the XL version or is there a more specific name for it?

Need help IDing Osprey

Last year my friend let me borrow her Osprey for a trip. My plan based on her rec was to use the main bag as a carry on and the smaller bag as a personal item. The main bag seemed large and when I measured it I remember seeing that the height was an inch or two too much for carry on. She told me she had used it for years as a carry on a never had issues so I went with it. It ended up being the perfect size for what I needed. After seeing the Farview 55L in person at the store, I'm convinced I used the 70L. However, the consensus on the internet seems that there's no shot the 55L bag can be used as a carry on (I used the day pack separated as my personal item). I had 6 different flights, including a small propeller plane, and didn't have any issues. Did I just get lucky? Or was it potentially a different Osprey? Planning another two week trip and want to get my own bag. I included pics but I know none of them are great and it's a longshot to id from them

Looking to replace my Wandrd PRVKE that is destroying my shoulders, could use some opinions

TL;DR: My Wandrd PRVKE is killing my shoulders and I need a comfortable replacement. Need to fit a 16" MBP, 11" iPad Pro, Fuji X-S10 setup, and optionally 1–2 days of clothes and switch 2, all while passing as an airline personal item. Is a single-bag solution realistic here or should I start looking at a two-bag combo?

I really need some help trying to decide on a bag to replace my Wandrd PRVKE. I bought this bag a couple of years ago and really fell in love with it at first, but lately it's been hurting the hell out of my shoulders and has become super uncomfortable. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with what I have packed in it, but there just has to be a better solution out there for what I travel with.

The thing I'm running into is that I have a lot of use cases I'd love this bag to fulfill, but the more I look around, the more it seems like that might not be possible. Here’s what I typically carry for a day:

  • a 16-inch MacBook Pro
  • an 11-inch iPad Pro
  • a Kobo eReader
  • a Fujifilm X-S10 with an 18-55mm lens and a 70-300mm lens
  • a DJI mic
  • a mic for the camera
  • sometimes a tripod

I would like this bag to be used for a weekend trip with minimal clothes plus the laptop and iPad. Because I work from home, I tend to go on a lot of 1 or 2 day trips. I'm talking like 2 shirts, underwear and socks.

also want the bag to be able to be brought on a plane as my personal item with all the gear (minus the clothes) and a Switch 2.

One of the things I value (although I might be able to compromise on) is having easy access to my camera. I already walk around with a Peak Design clip, so if I know I'm gonna be shooting a lot when I'm not in a city, I'll typically put the camera on the clip. Otherwise I would prefer to keep the camera in the bag and just have easier access to it.

Here's a couple bags I'm looking at right now:

  • Peter McKinnon 35L Nomatic (25L instead?)
    • I love the look of this bag and the front separate pocket that could potentially be used for clothes. I do realize this is a very bulky bag and quite heavy
  • 30L Travel Backpack from Peak Design
    • This sort of feels like it could be a choice? I'm not crazy about the giant compartment but I guess thats why cubes exist. I can pack and organize as I need. Worries this is too big as well
  • Everyday backpack from Peak Design (30L?)
    • Should I just grab this and call it a day?
  • Thule Aion 28L
    • Again, huge compartment, but, cubes.

Day Pack w/Quick Access to Water Bottle

For years I've been hiking with this waist pack which has quick, easy access to my water bottle.

I'd like to use a backpack, to have it higher up on my back, have more room, and to add some weight (rucking). But I don't want to need to stop hiking to drink water.

I've tried a backpack with a water bottle holder on the strap, but it flops around too much. Another option is a water bottle belt in addition to a backpack, or maybe one of those hydration packs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

Backpack Recommendations

Hey Peeps,

What waterproof backpacks do you all recommend? I need something that will keep books and other paper products safe from the rain. Thanks!

Any other bags that does this?

I bought the MX-Gear from moxordesign through their Kickstarter campaign 5 years ago and it was THE perfect bag for me, with a strap system that allowed the bag to be used as a messenger normally and can just slide into a backpack configuration. After 5 years of heavy use it's got a few splits in the outer material, but their socials hasn't been updated in years and when I tried to contact them through their website to see if they are still selling there's no reply.

So just here to ask if there are any other bags out there that can seamlessly transform like this and are good for carrying a laptop, lots of A4 documents and stationery?

Washing a Borealis Classic backpack

Hi everyone!
I’ve been wanting to give my Borealis backpack a really good wash, as of now i’ve only rinsed it with water and soap (hand wash).
Has someone ever tried to put it in the washing machine? Because i would really like to do it but the tag inside says not to but sometimes it works anyway.
Thank you if you’ll share your experience! 😸

Looking for a bag that can hold a camera for daily commutes and can also be used for hikes

I've been struggling to find a bag that fits my routine. I bring my camera along for my daily commutes, plus I do short hikes on the weekends to shoot landscapes. finding something decent is a pain.

the weather is my biggest headache. it often rains when I hike. the commuter bags I've used aren't waterproof, and the professional camera bags are too bulky. I did see a lightweight camera bag from norbu made on instagram, but I'm not sure how waterproof it is.

has anyone used a bag that meets both daily commuting and outdoor needs? I need something that keeps my gear safe from rain and bumps, without drawing attention. something discreet. would love to hear what y'all think. thanks!

most backpacks seem to pull my shirts up - what can i do about it?

hello guys,

basically issue us as described, most of my backpacks seems to pull my shirts up, doesn‘t help that im not that tall at 5.8ft and i have a hollow lower back (shoulders & butt stick out)

im not sure why my shirts get pulled up, i have this puma backpack where nothing happens, however given it is kinda old i spent 40€ on a new one, this one is a tad bigger and doesn‘t fit at all

it improves when i pull the straps up very far but then the bag isn‘t comfortable for long stretches of time

do i need a shoulder bag? is there a different bag i should get, i dont wanna start tucking in my shirts.
any similar experiences?

Sticky PU coating inside early-2000s Italian Navy pack — removal advice, especially on Cordura?

Hi all,

I recently picked up an early-2000s Italian Marina Militare rucksack (roughly 120L, lots of compartments). Overall condition is good, but the internal PU coating has degraded and the whole inside is tacky. It's worst in the pocket under the lid — presumably the most sun- and heat-exposed panel. It doesn't flake, peel or shed, and it's still glossy rather than milky white, so it seems more like the film has gone soft than fully hydrolysed. It leaves no residue on your hands, just makes them slightly sticky.

What I've tried so far:

  • Airing it out for several days with all pockets open — no real change
  • Mild soap and water — no change to the tackiness
  • 90% isopropyl on a microfibre cloth — no change

On the nylon (darker material) sections I can get the coating off with an abrasive sponge and IPA. On the Cordura it's much harder — the weave seems to hold onto it and I can't get it to lift.

I'm not concerned about keeping it waterproof, I'll be using a separate rain cover. I just want the interior usable for carrying camera gear.

Any advice on removing it from heavier Cordura specifically? Or is there a way to restore rather than strip it? Also curious whether anyone has re-coated one of these afterwards, and whether it's worth it.

Thanks!

Desparate. I want this so bad :(

North Face Borealis Backpack Kelly Green 28L - I know very little about elusive backpacks. I found a singular Poshmark link but they don't deliver to Ireland. Anyone know where to look out for them?

edit: I messaged North Face. They said:

  • Based on the design details visible in the image, my best estimate is that this is an older-generation North Face Borealis backpack from the mid-2000s to early-2010s, roughly 2007
  • We wont stock or manufacturer this anymore im afraid
  • your best bet is to keep an eye out on reseller pages such a vinted / depop

Sad face. I get it though.

Osprey straps digging into my shoulders

Hi, I just received my order of Osprey Astronova 23L backpack, I was looking for a good quality city backpack for university (with a 16'' laptop sleeve) and this one is allegedly made for campus.

I also read how Osprey is surprisingly ergonomic and has a good back ventilation, so I was excited to try it out. However as soon as I unpacked this backpack and put some weight into it I felt how much pressure the outside edge of the straps has on my shoulder bones. The strap itself is also quite rigid, so it doesn't adapt to the shoulder groove well. You can see on the last photo the pressure point where the skin turned pink after I wore it for around 5 minutes with 4-5 kilograms inside.

Does anyone have this problem? Is this because the backpack is "unisex", therefore made for men's wider shoulders? Do you get used to this type of pressure or is it better to return it? And where can I find something that would fit?

For information I'm 176 cm tall and weigh 54 kilograms.

I measured my shoulders and they're not particularly narrow (37 cm biacromial width), so I'm not sure why the problem comes up. It happened with another backpack from Decathlon before, so I had to give it to my father.

Why is it hard to find a Good affordable 40x30x20 without a laptop pocket?

Hello there.

I've been browsing bag stores, trying to spot a comfortable, affordable, bottle-pocket, and reliable 40x30x20 bag for a two-week trip as part of my new minimalism challenge.

I've checked out many bags, but almost all of them have the same style, featuring a laptop pocket that takes up a large part of the main compartment. Come on, it's only 20 cm, and as a backpacker, I usually don't need to carry my laptop!

Even though it has a bottle pocket and no laptop pocket, I now feel I have to compromise on comfort and budget, which are the most important factors for backpackers!

Why is it so difficult? 😅

Able Carry Max EDC: first impressions from a newbie.

After owning several, not very special bags, I thought I would dip my toes into the world of "the better backpacks".

Since I wanted something that would be versatile I ended up ordering an Able Carry Max EDC. I also considered a CHZ26 and the Aer CPP2. The Evergoods got dropped after I found out it only comes in black in X-Pac, which is preferred because of our three cats. The Aer is not available in Europe and 72 euros shipping and possible return costs put me off.

So here I am, the Max EDC (in Ocean Blue) came in today. And these are my first impressions after dropping in some basic stuff and trying it on. Pictures here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ManyBaggers/s/d5cMFDzQC4

Love the color, better than I thought it would be. Don't love the cream on the inside though. Makes it feel very old fashioned or classic. A bright orange would've made this an amazing color combo.

Picking it up I noticed how heavy it is, my current bag weighs almost half at around 800 grams. I just tell my self the majority of the weight will come from the stuff I put in, but I never see me hiking with this (I have a Deuter Futura for that anyway).

Loading it out I wish there was more organisation, what's mostly missing is an admin section in the middle of the bag. The rest I think will suffice.

I am glad I didn't go smaller though as I think this is just enough for an EDC and I don't even pack that much (laptop, earbuds, sunglasses, wallet, keys, some food, hydro flask wide 32oz, charger, and a power bank. And I slways want room for a rain coat or sweater.

Comfort wise, luckily I didn't notice the poking strap mounts that have been discussed on here. Otherwise I find it a bit weird how it sits on my shoulders. When I wear it high the shoulder pads seem to not hug my shoulders but stick out at an angle because they are quite stiff.

When I wear it low on my back the sternum strap at its lowest setting is almost in my neck.

I am 189cm (6"2) at about 95 kgs.

Quality, can't say anything about how it will last but I really don't see much difference with bags that cost half or even less.

I'll probably keep it though, as I don't know what else I would get. 🫠

Good backpack for college around $75?

I've been looking at Osprey and North Face a lot and they seem to really be my only options but to be honest I don't know. The Osprey Axis is a little out of my price range so is there anything just a little bit cheaper that will still be good for college?
